Please Help! Pre-ivf struggles, not going the way it should be.

I. Am. Weary.
I was scheduled for an early March ivf with a long protocol. Instead of bcp, my RE gave me natural estrogen and progesterone. (My body is very sensitive and my sister did not do well with bcp). I began Lupron Feb. 13. It took me until the 25th to get a period. The period had horrible cramping and when I went in for the suppression check, I had 3 cysts on the R ovary. I was told to continue with the Lupron for another week and come back for another baseline u/s to see if the cysts went down. The next day I was doubled over in pain for 15 min. We thought maybe one cyst burst. During this extra week of Lupron, my period never ended. It's cycle day 8 and I am still having red flow. My period has only ever been 2-3 days max. I feel that my body is so totally thrown off, and I'm terrified that we might be beginning ivf offtrack.
I went to acup. today and it was clear I really am out of whack.
As it stands now, another u/s tomorrow. But even if the cysts are down, I can't stim if I'm bleeding. I called my ivf nurse yesterday and she said it could be the cysts and/or Lupron and to monitor it.
Has anyone heard of this? What's happening to me? I feel awful.

Poet--I am so sorry you are going through this. I know how you feel totally with all these mishaps. I am thinking maybe since you were on the natural estrogen and progesterone you had a huge lining build-up. I was on bcp for a few cycles and boy when af came, it was in abundance. It lasted 4-5 days. Normal for me is 2-3 days, tops. Are you bleeding tons or just a little? Plus, cysts can cause alot of bleeding.

I will be stimming sometime in April if things work out for me.

You and I are going through so many roadblocks lately. Soon we should both get our bfp. I feel like we try so hard to move on something else slams us against the wall. I don't understand the reasoning why we are faced with these so many difficult issues.

jennifer - i just finished a cycle of IVF and was having similar problems (though it was bleeding on bcps, not lupron). i bled for about three weeks solid. i was sure the whole thing would be cancelled, but it wasn't. the IVF drugs are really crazy, they messed up my perfectly normal cycles.

im sorry you are having to go through this, IVF is stressful enough without your body sending you these extra curveballs. hope everything looks good at your u/s tomorrow :

Thanks Wtng and Sarah so much.

Sarah, Were you still bleeding when you started stimming? Did they give you anything to make it stop? I just had acup. and told him to do any points to make me stop bleeding and then I started up again.

Wtng, There is no reason. You just get through every roadblock and snag as best you can. I ask "why" as well because it feels so personal. But I have come to believe it isn't. It's nice to see that soon you will finally get to do something to move forward even if it's not the plan you thought it would be.

Jennifer - Like Sarah, I too had a problem with bleeding while on bcp, which then extended into the tiem after bcp, so about 14 days straight. The ivf protocol for me has me start lupron 3 days before stopping bcps, then continuing with lupron a minimum of 14 days prior to stimming. To tell you the truth, an 8 day period would be normal for me. I was always jealous of you gals with shorter ones. However, did the est/prog delay your period? Would it have come sooner if you had not been on the drugs? When this happens for me, the period is much worse because the drugs not only build up my lining, but give it more time to build before shedding. You could try and think about what a thick warm nest your body will be making for your soon-to-be baby. I hope the appointmen tomorrow yields soem answers.

Regardless, I dont' think this is a cancellation of ivf occurrence, just a variant on the norm. I'll be thinking of you. :

Deep breath, Jennifer, take a deep breath. I have faith you will come thru this and your years of struggle will yield the result you desire. You are strong and you can do this. Keep up with the meditation and keep your heart as calm as possible.

Thank You Julia's Mom. Your post really really helped me. I am so grateful.
I will see what tomorrow's u/s brings.
I believe the drugs did delay my period so perhaps that was part of the issue. I've been taking 20 iu of Lupron since 2/13 and I'm freaked out that it is too much and is screwing with me, possibly leading to oversuppression. But that is a fear and I have no way of knowing that is what is happening.
Deep breath. Yes.

Poet, Good luck tomorrow. I hope those nasty cysts are gone and the long AF doesn't slow you down! :

I'm glad I found you all, again!

Hi Everyone! I was looking for you all on the Feb IVF thread but it looks like that one is over. I took a mental break after my cancelled IVF and now I'm ready to give it another try.

Poet - I hope you can continue with your cycle!!! I know exactly how you feel! I bled through stims but it was because my E2 didnt bump at all, so I was cancelled. I felt exactly as you did about all of the suppression! I actually had OHSS with stim of natural cycle prior, so I really felt that the suppression screwed up my ovulation! It doesnt sound like you are having the E2 problem I had so hope for the best with your US!!! GL tomorrow!

BellyBean - ::::: I see your signature says due 11/5! I am soooooooooo happy for you!!! It's great to hear sucessful IVF and on your first try! How are you? With all of those eggs and PG, no OHSS?! How many beans? 1 or 2????? SO EXCITING!

W4M - I'm waiting on AF and will probably start stims in April, too. Is there a new IVF thread to replace Feb IVF?

JuliasM, CRM - How are you guys? What's going on?

Let me know if there is a new March/April IVF thread.

LuckyIVF - I'll start up a new thread now, as it seems there are a few of us. My ivf/iui convert didn't take hold, so I'm on for a march/april ivf as well. Come join me!

Thank you CRM, BBean, By-the-Lake!

Lucky, I'm sorry this happened to you too. Sounds like it caught you off guard given your prev. cycle. I hope this next try is flawless. I'm sure it's a bit vulnerable going into it. Thanks for sharing. I will ask about suppression and E2 when I go in today.

Hi poet,

I have no medical advice but I just want to let you know I am thinking about you at the u/s. Please let us know how it went.

Many, many hugs from afar.

Poet,
I have had similar issues on the IVF meds. My first IVF (successful, ended w/ m/c) went smooth, zero issues. Second IVF canceled b/c I responded too quickly to the meds. Third IVF canceled due to under-responding to meds. Now, I'm on bcp (against my better judgement, but I feel like I need to try it) and am hoping, praying, believing that my time will come soon. Best of luck to you and please let us know how it works out.

Thanks so much Snowbell and Barefoot Farmer. It is awfully stressful all the variables of this process. You're just praying you're not throwing things off in such a way that it interferes with the process.

B Farmer, Sounds like you've had quite the array of experiences, one not necessarily being an indication of the next. GL on the bcp. I'll be hoping all goes well.

My update is that while there is still some spotting, the red flow seems to have tapered off. I have two cysts left per today's u/s but they are very small and the cycle is not being cancelled. I asked over and over if they would impede that ovary's production and got No after No, so I guess I have to trust that and let it go. My antral foll. count was lower than normal and it worried me since I've been on Lupron for 20 days now, but again when I asked if that was a bad sign, they said No, just the Lupron quieting everything down. I think from here on out this is really a Day By Day process. I start stimming Sat. and we will take a look on Monday.

Thank you Everyone for helping to keep me sane during the last 24 hrs.
A cancellation at this point in my story would have been very hard.

Gratefully,
Jennifer

Sounds like you are on a good path! I have a good feeling about this for you!

I wanted to tell you too, that I had several small cysts on both my ovaries before I started stims, and the nurse told me the same thing "Nothing to worry about."

Good luck!!
