AIO vs AI2???

So I am NOT going to buy any more disposables... this is it! I've been trying to CD since DS1 was born and now I'm just going to do it.

DH is finally on board, we're taking $$ we got for DS2's birth (you know, the 'here's a check buy a new outfit' stuff) to buy the dipes, and we're all ready to go. I was leaning toward pockets or AIO's for my hubby... mom and MIL won't mind good ol prefolds and neither will I but DH is a little CD-wary (you should have seen the look on his face when I bought cheap prefolds to use as burp rags... he thought I lost my mind).

Then I discovered the AI2. So what's the idea with them?? All the ease of the AIO but less laundry because you reuse the cover? Would I be just as well off using a pocket dipe?? Can you make your own inserts (depending on the brand)?

You have the idea of an AI2. IMO, pockets and AI2s are very similar convenience-wise. More pockets come with a stay-dry inner, so if you're looking for that you'll have more options with pockets. You'll have more options with pockets in general since there are more kinds out there.
I like AI2 for the diaper bag since I only toss in one extra cover and then the snap in soakers. I never thought about making your own soakers, if you have a snap press you probably could. I wouldn't go more than about 3 changes though, without switching to a fresh cover.
