Sling Fabric?

I'm VERY new to sewing and still trying to figure all this out. But, I'm going to try making a ring sling for the LO coming in May. I'm wondering what kind of fabric would be best. I'll be using it all summer (it gets hot here) with a newborn, but I'd like it to last when the baby gets bigger too. Any ideas? Thanks!

I made 2 (1 for me & 1 for dh). I used a cotton that has no strectch & feels/looks a lot like linen. They've worked great in the heat here.

MayaWrap recommends cotton or cotton/poly blend. I agree that a "homespun" type might work really well.

homespun, linen, I've also used sari fabric, which is beautiful, but a PITA to sew because it's slippery. A thinner denim would work well too.

This is a great site with lots of sling sewing info. I've also made the BBO mei tei on this site and love it.

I'd choose from a woven heavier linen, cotton/linen, or hemp/linen fabric personally, for breathability and durability.

Thanks everybody! I'm going to print this out and hope to find a helpful person at the fabric store! I'm still really intimidated going in there!

I made a ring sling out of quilting cotton, and I really liked my friend's maya wrap better. The weave was looser and the sling had more give.
