Oh great! Now a have a possible vax dilemma

So is it true that private schools do not have to accept any type of exemptions? I may move over to a private school next year because my p.s. position may be cut as many, many other teachers positions in my state. I was reading the application for one of the schools and it said that if you have a child school age one of the requirements is that they attend the school.

Does anyone have experience with this situation in private? Are they all the same or does it vary when it comes to requiring vaxes?

Private schools don't have to accept exemptions, but sometimes they choose to.

You might check if the school receives any public funding (could be a small grant...anything) If they do, they have to accept your state exemptions.

This info is public record. Ask to see the schools financial report.

There are some gray areas in some states where some private schools must accept exemptions. But in most cases, they don't have to.

Check your individual state law. In my state, private schools must accept conscientious exemptions.

There are a few states that require private schools to accept exemptions. Most posters I've seen here ultimately are not refused due to vaccination status. I usually recommend submitting a religious exemption without comment in lieu of vax records.

Thanks for all the info - I did not know about the accepting exemptions if they accept a state grant. I guess I'll be doing some covert investigations next week . I'm sure if they found out beforehand they might think, oh we don't want to hire her, even though I might be a great choice.

It won't be a big deal if they don't require my DS to attend, but I know some do. Personally, I think he'd be bored to tears in a private kinder...this is why I plan to hs or unschool.

Just have to interject- I have NEVER heard of a private school requiring that your child attend. How very odd. Do they cover tuition?

No, they don't cover tuition. I think you get a discount, but that's it. It's stated clearly on the application that all school-aged children of teachers must attend our school.

I plan on putting in several applications all around my area so I hope that's not the case with the majority.

That is really, really, strange sounding to me. Is is a religious school?

I'd bet the issue with the children having to attend is a PR thing. What would it look like to other parents if the school isn't good enough for the teachers to bring their kids there? Or something like that.

A lot of private schools will not bother you about the exemption because they want your money/enrollment. I'd be willing to bet that enrollment is down at most private schools for next year right now due to people holding tight to their cash.

Odd was not the word that came to mind! How can a private school require that their staff's children attend their school? Especially if the tuition is not covered. What if the family acannot afford the tuition even with a discount. Ridiculous and I have never heard of this either.

Yes, it is a religious school. The tuition is outrageous and with what they pay teachers I don't even know if I could afford it. Just Kinder is almost $8000/yr and it goes up from there. Basically my whole paycheck would go for tuition. I bet it is a pr thing too like someone said earlier.

I may be better off finding some really great unemployed teachers with like philosophies and starting our own private or charter school just a thought...

Would this be mandated by each state's legislature? If so, I would imagine I could find it under the Revised State Statutes. Off to do some checking thanks!!
