wet bag or no?

I just started to cloth diaper ds who will be 2 this month. Already i can tell transition to potty training will be so easy. I dont go many places much as i stay at home with him but when we do its usually to the grocery store and doctor visits (hour away) i wanted to know if i could get by without buying a wet bag at the moment or if there is alternatives then buying one with pul. i would like to make one myself but it would be cheaper to buy the whole bag with pul then to buy pul seperatly then make. baby #2 is due in august and i figured by then i would need to get a wet bag but right now i am trying to save a little more to buy more diapers for baby2 as i just bought some for ds. Is there other materials wetbags are made of or do i need to just break down and by some ziplock bags to use right now?

You could use and resue Ziplock bags, or you could just pack a breadbag or the like with you when you go out. Those are free and plentiful!

yes i would reuse a ziplock bag if i had to use it i can stand them and havent bought any in a long time. it seems like a ziplock bag would work better for us then a grocery bag as i can just zip it and not worry about leaks.

a wet bag is nice, but not a necessity with all the plastics that float around in our world of commerce.

I used plastic grocery bags for my first child 19 years ago and again for part of my diapering with the boys.
Or I would reclaim and use plastic newspaper bags. We called them diaper sausages. LOL

If someone asks what you need for the new baby you can always point them to a source for wet bags to buy you one.

Wet bags really are not a necessity, just more of a convenience. I've used plenty of the plastic bags from Target or the grocery store.

I have a couple of small wet bags (see below). IMO, they are a worthy investment. Mine were only $7 a piece. Plus, they have other uses when your LOs are out of dipes (i.e. wet bathing suits, etc.).

I used to fill my washer and drop the dirties into the washer and at the end of the day just run the washer and they were good to go Only down side was that I couldn't do laundry till night time

I like having a wetbag, but I'm paranoid about leaking into my diaper bag. DS is well known for needing three diaper changes in one quick trip (how does he know it would be inconvenient?).

Since I started CDing, I used plastic bags for awhile, wetbags for awhile (didn't like them--but ONLY b/c they were too small), then plastic bags again, now I'm about to use WBs again (bigger ones!)

If you don't like PUL you could get wool ones

You can buy PUL for maybe....$8-10/yd ...ish. So, you can make a wetbag (simple bag with a drawstring top works well). Then you'll still have fabric left over to make some diapers or covers! Even mama pads for you. There's lots of free patterns available online (check under diaper making).

You certainly can live with ziplocks, but it wouldn't take too long to spend the $8-10 anyway. Plastic grocery bags work, too...but I love my wetbags (I have two, one clean and one in the laundry, usually!)!

I have a wetbag that only cost $8.50. I much prefer that to plastic.

Yes, if you are having another baby I would buy the wetbag. Ziplocks work fine but they don't hold as much and well, they are meant to be disposable. I'm on my 3rd cd'd baby and my wetbags are still holding up great.

If you don't want PUL, you could use wool just as well. Better for Babies has wool ones I think or if you knit it would be pretty easy to make one.
