Installing a dishwasher?

How complicated is it to install a dishwasher yourself? We are buying a house and I really want a dishwasher. I will have no space to add one, so I'd imagine we'd have to loose a cabinet to install it under the counter, right? Is it complicated? My hubby is pretty handy, so if we get one I'd love for itto be something we can do ourselves.

If you have the power/water hookups it's easy, but I'm guessing if there's no dishwasher there currently you won't have these. The biggest problem IMO would be running the water in/out lines.

We have a freestanding dishwasher, since there's no room to install one. We'd have had to give up one of only 4 cabinets. It made more sense this way. It's on casters and sits across the room. WHen it's full we just move it over in front of the sink, there's a hose that hooks onto the faucet, plug it in and go.

Not that hard... the plumbing part is a wee bit tricky but anyone in a home improvement store can walk you through it.

If there's no water and electric hookup for the dishwasher, then you may need to hire an electrician (not DIY for most people) and do a bit of plumbing (possibly DIY, depending). There can be fiddliness with the cabinet too, depending on how the cabinet is designed and how well the dishwasher fits. We got a Miele dishwasher professionally installed where there had been no dishwasher before. It cost 100s of dollars and was quite a production...and we still had to hire an electrician. Love the Miele by the way . It's our only high-end appliance but it's worth it because it's so quiet, efficient, compact, and hard-working.
