Scheduled for wrong procedure

Late this afternoon, a nurse called from the hospital with some instructions for a procedure scheduled for tomorrow. According to the hospital roster, I'm going in for my second C section.

WHOA!!

It's supposed to be an external version to turn a breech baby. And this is my first child.

The nurse was very apologetic, and assured me she would make corrections to all the appropriate paperwork. An honest mistake, I'm sure, but yikes.

DH joked about writing instructions on my belly with a magic marker: "Do not open before March 20," or something like that. We'll certainly be mentioning to every hospital staffer we meet exactly what procedure we're there for!

Yikes!!
Good thing she called! Could you imagine if you would have gotten there and had to sort through that mess? What a pain!

~sighs~ And people wonder why I don't trust doctors, nurses, medical office staff, and hospitals in general. That's a HUGE mistake.

I really hope it all works out for you tomorrow! I like your DH's idea!

That is kind of scary...

That is a little worrisome! At least you didn't show up at the hospital only to be prepped for surgery!

When I went for my version, they kept calling it an "external version and possible c-section." Whoa! Way to freak a lady out! I had to write all over those consent forms that NO I did NOT consent to a possible c-section!

I love the "Do Not Open" idea!

Amy, I'll be thinking of you tomorrow! I'm sending you slippery turny baby vibes! Let us know how it goes!

Whoa. I hope it goes well for you. I think you should write that on your belly! That is hilarious.

Holy cow! What a mess that could have been! So glad that you found out BEFORE you went in. And what a trip that would have been for the mama who was actually scheduled for the c/s

I love the idea your dh had...too funny! But it seriously may not be a bad idea!!!

Update - the correct procedure was applied today, with success! Baby was vertex when I left the hospital.

There was still plenty of confusion about what exactly I was there for, but I had a good admitting nurse who ran interference. She asked careful questions, and listened to my answers. I also volunteered plenty of information and opinions, ie 37 weeks is too early for surgery due to breech position alone!

The nurse agreed with me. But apparently it's pretty common for women to go in at 37 weeks for an external version, and if it's unsuccessful, to go immediately for a C section.

By the way, we didn't go with the instructions on my belly...we were just very clear with every new person we met why we were there. Whew.

Yay!!!! I'm so glad it worked for you! :

Wonderful news! Now stay down baby!!!

Congratulations! I had my ECV at 36 weeks and my daughter was born Thursday night at 39.5 weeks. the doctor who did my version says that if they are going to turn back, they usually do so right away, so head-down thoughts for you, but it is a very good sign that your baby stayed down after the procedure!
