HIB and DTaP: No reactions from first shots question

I am planning another HIB for my DD. She'll be 16 months. I started selective vaxing at 6 months. So far she has had 1 DTaP, and 2 HIB. I have decided that I want to do another HIB, then it would end the series.

She had no reactions except for sleepiness and maybe a little fussing. I'm scared to do another HIB, but I ask myself if this is a god sign that she didn't have bad reactions the first 2 shot of HIB, then her 3rd will be more or less the same. Am I wrong on this? Just because she has done well in the past, does the shot build-up each time causing more reactions with later shots of the name?

I've cancelled the appointment twice and this time I am going in. She is still BF. trust me, I'd like to stay home that day, but HIB is a serious one.

Yes, she can have a more serious reaction even if her previous were sleepiness and fussing; it has happened to posters here.

BF is an effective protection against HIB; even prior to the vax HIB was rare in bf babes.

Prior to the vax most people carried the HIB bacteria harmlessly in their throats from time to time.

Yes, HIB disease is serious, but treatable. Not every HIB infection results in meningitis.

Bacteria meningitis can be caused by any bacteria, not just HIB.

My second child is vax free and never received HIB.7

Hib is a very nonreactive vaccine. If you want to be extra sure, you could make sure your doc uses acthib, which is aluminum free, which tends to lead to less injection site issues as well as other concerns alleviated.

but my question is that you should find out which vaccine you used for the first two and what ages they were at because you might not need another one (and actually you might find that, because of the shortage, booster shots are not available- so that could also affect your wanting another dose)

A serious reaction to a vaccine can happen at ANY time. The first, the second. Yes if a child has a bad reaction subsequent vaccines tend to show more serious reactions, but I have several online friends (on another board) whose children had "no reaction" to shots given early on. One woman's child was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 2 years old...No diabetes runs in her family. She had the HIB series with "no serious reactions". Yes I know she can't prove it was from the HIB vaccine but she believes it is. Another woman's child got a select few shots over the years with "no reactions" and then he reacted to a booster dose of the DTaP he receievd before starting school. He has all kinds of neurological problems now

Being selective and going slow is probably safer and better in general but this is no guarantee that no serious reaction will happen. They can happen at any time regardless of having no previous reactions. Its all a gamble
