Plastic Bag Dryer

It just hit me that I could probably do a project with the 5 yos who come to my house afterschool and make a plastic bag dryer like this.

I know I can get wooden dowels at Michaels or Home Depot. What do you suggest I need to get for the base so that it dries? What kind of clay would dry? Or plaster? I suppose I could get little flower pots for the base too.

I embroider and knit. This is out of my element here. I appreciate your advice.

To me, the base looks like a candlestick! I'd put some glue in it and set in the dowels.

A flowerpot would likely work as well. I would probably get a medium-sized one (4-5 inches?) and use it upside-down, putting the pieces of dowel through the drainage hole and securing them inside the pot itself.

I might also look for one of those flower-arranger-helper things. I don't know what they're called, but they look like the wooden ring with the holes in it. It's to keep flowers stems separated when the arrangement is in a vase.

Good luck! I'd love to see a picture of the finished project if you decide to do it.

That's a thought. Another idea came to me. I've been hanging on to some of our Trader Joe coffee cans with the plastic lids. It occurred to me that instead of noisemakers or banks, I could use them make them into a bag dryer!

I've been thinking for years about doing this with some of the kids' tinkertoy pieces. This might finally inspire me to do it!
