Can you put a mei tai on after LO's asleep?

My 6wk-old DD always falls asleep on my chest after I nurse her (upright in a little froggy position). My MIL is in the process of sewing me a mei tai :, is it possible to put the mei tai on while the baby is sleeping on me so then I could stand up and go about my day?

hmmmm... maybe, with some jiggling. You'd kind of have to lean way back, tie the waist behind you, pull up the body, stand up, and then jiggle her into place while grasping the shoulder straps. The good news is even if she wakes up with the jiggling I bet she goes right back to sleep. A 6-week-old with a full tummy snuggled in a mei tai can't help but nod off.

The best thing to do after getting her on is to walk around - the movement always works like a charm to make them fall asleep.

i've done it, but it's not easy if you think it's likely to happen, better to just nurse baby in the mei tai to begin with - or at least tie it around your waist before you sit down so all you have to do it pull the body of the carrier up over baby and tie the shoulder straps.

It would be really hard to tie a waist strap with the little one on you. If the waist is already tied it wouldn't be too hard to do the top I don't think. Easier though just to tie the Mei tai on, and leave it on to nurse in. You can always loosen and tighten it too or drop the top straps and put them back on when you are done nursing.

absolutely! where there's a will there's a way!

I found the more you practice with your own carrier the more it becomes an extension of you, or at least of your wardrobe...I agree that tying it around your waist first will make it much easier.

my kid is a bit older but I can get her out of the carseat and into a back carry without waking her, I love my Kozy!

Agree w/ PPs about doing the waist tie first...unless you have a helper who can do it for you once you're ready to stand.
I can't put my 7 week old in it unless I have it tied on my waist first. Thankfully, he doesn't wake once he's sleeping unless he's really disturbed (or wasn't fully asleep in the first place).
Good luck! I loooove my BabyHawk; it totally saves my house from being a disaster area and has given me lots of freedom to get out and around. We even figured out how to nurse in it last week, and have done so successfully both at home and in public.

Yep! you can definitely do that! Like the other mama's have said, it may take some fidgeting around, but it can be done.
