Contractions that just STOP?

Around 2am this morning I had some contractions. They had to be real b/c they were painful, and I felt it in my back too. Plus, they continued even when I got up to go to the bathroom & after I went back to bed. This went on for about 30 minutes, and then they just went away. WTH? I am two days away from my due date. Would it be wishful thinking that I may go into full labor this weekend, or could this go on for weeks? :

I had some last night as well. I haven't had but a handful until last night. I sure hope it means soon....

Totally normal. Your body is just "gearing up" for the real thing. You may experience that a few more times before your body goes into full labor. It could mean this weekend, or it may not. Sorry to say that, but you just can't predict. I personally would say that yes, it probably means very soon. My body tends to have contractions for awhile at night as well. Then the next day, nothing, and it'll do it again at night or during the night. It will happen a few times with me before real labor kicks in. But your body IS doing something! I doubt it will be much longer for you. It's a good sign!

I know how you feel Luna. I had contx last night 5min apart for 1 hour and 15 min, then finally fell asleep and woke up had a few more then they stopped. very annoying. I really thought it was the real thing. My DD is tomorrow. So who knows maybe tonight. One can only hope

I felt like that one night and the next day they were gone. Then, that night, they started up again and it was labor!

The same thing has been happening to me for the past 5-6 days (I am 41w5d)....lots of contractions during the afternoon evening...but they peter out over night....the whole cycle starts again the next day....I have had a few this morning, but they are so mild...I am wondering if I am imagining things....

I've been having these too, I was really hoping last night's were starting to push me into labor, since they went on longer then normal, from about 1pm till 2am, but they went away again, sigh. I do hope this means she plans on coming soon, but they have been going on and off for over a week now, so I am afraid it maybe wishful thinking.

Glad to know I'm not the only one! I still haven't had any more since I last posted in this thread. : I have tried nearly everything I can to naturally "induce" labor, and none of it seems to be working: EPO, sex, nipple stimulation, eating tons of pineapple, spicy food, walking, yoga stretches, bouncing on the birth ball, etc. *sigh*

What position is the baby in? I talked to my midwife about labor doing the stop start thing and she said the baby was in the perfect position and it probably wouldn't happen that way for me. This thread was talking about it too, how prodromal labor is to get the baby moved around.

A few days ago, he moved his back to the right side instead of left. I'm not sure how big of a deal that is, but I try to do pelvic tilts whenever he gets active so there's room to move back over to the left.

She is head down, but Octiput Posterior - she's basically facing toward my left side, with her back mostly toward my back. Interesting theory you have there.

Interesting....though my babe is in the perfect position, I have still been having start and stop contractions...for just about a week

chiming in with the same problem - Right Occiput Anterior babe that is nice and comfy and not so interested in moving to the left. i hear it can still happen, but i'm kinda worried about it. meanwhile, i'm not sure how much of this prelabor stuff i can take! i figure this could go on for weeks.

Yeah, I had a few short-lived contractions today while we were in the movie theatre. They stopped & haven't returned. : I.DO.NOT. want to go back to work tomorrow. I will be absolutely miserable, and everyone will be reminding me that I "should've had the baby by now".

I'm agreeing with you, though you're a week ahead of me. I was hoping to go into labor this weekend, so I wouldn't have to go into work this week and deal with the "where's the baby" comments. I, too, started having contractions while sitting in a theatre yesterday, but they stopped.

...By the way, The Watchmen isn't the ideal movie to go see when you're this far along. Especially when SO wants to sit in the middle of a very looooooong aisle. 3 hours of holding it because I didn't want to bother anyone and then coupled with contractions... Maybe that's part of the reason why I didn't like this movie all that much.

Ugh. That movie didn't look appealing to me, anyway. We saw He's Just Not That Into You. Cute, but some parts of it were depressing.

Had contractions again this morning, and again they stopped. I have to leave for work in an hour.

Sorry you had to head to work.

I've been having contractions on and off all morning since 7am or so. At this point in time I refuse to believe they mean anything though, I figure she is just playing with my mind, because otherwise I am going to go insane with on and off semi-painful contractions, especially when she is in perfect position for birth.
