C-Section Scheduled for Next Week

Well, I just left my weekly check up and it turns out babe has had a big growth spurt. I've gained 7 lbs in 5 days (though I've barely been eating because I've been sick), and my fundal height jumped from 37 to 41 in that same amount of time. We've decided to go ahead with a c-section next week, rather than wait and attempt a VBAC -- due to his size, and also because my blood pressure has gone up significantly as well (which is really unusual for me).

So, we're scheduled for Tuesday, the 10th at 7:30am est. It's not ideal, but I'm ok with it as long as he and I are both strong and healthy. I consulted with all three of the doctors in my practice before agreeing (even the one who is very pro-VBAC), and they're all in agreement. It feels like the right thing to do, but I'm hoping you'll all send us good vibes and warm, healthy thoughts for the big day.

With DS1, I was in labor 15 hours until they found out he was breech, and ended up with an emergency c-section in the middle of the night. That was very scary! I didn't want to go the emergency route again, so I'm not so afraid this time....just a bit nervous (of course).

I just wanted to share and ask for the good vibes. I'm looking forward to meeting this little guy and now there's a time and date in place. (Though he could come earlier, which is a totally different thread!).

Thanks for letting me share. I'll update next week or if things change before then. In the meantime I'm going to focus on meditating and using Reiki to get us both ready for what's coming.

Oh, it is good to have the time to prepare, and feel at peace with this decision, which sounds like the right one in your situation.
It's great you do Reiki; that will be helpful to bring peace to you physically, and get you and baby all set for the big day!

Best of luck to you for a healthy birth. You have to make the best decisions for you and your baby and it sounds like you are doing that. A birth is a birth, no matter how it happens, and still a time for celebration.

All best wishes for good health for you and little one!

Good luck to you and your baby!! Mine was delivered via c-section a week and a half ago. Not the way I imagined but like you say -all that really matters is that you and he are strong and healthy.

Thanks for all of the good wishes. I was worried that my original post made it sound like I was "all-for" having a c-section, and that I'd either not get any responses or I'd get just anti-c-section responses.

Anyway.....it isn't what I wanted to do. But the blood pressure thing, along with the jump in weight and sudden swelling and pain in my hands (which I forgot to mention in the previous post) does have me a bit concerned.

I've never felt like having a cesearean birth made someone less of a mom or anything. I never even felt sad or traumatized by the emergency c-section I had with my first son. It's just something that had to be done. And I was so happy to have him in my arms, it made everything ok. I'm hoping I feel that way this time as well.

Still, the whole thing is a little scary! And I'm just trying to stay positive and do what I can now to prepare and hopefully make it as healthy as possible.

The good news is that I had a c-section clause in my birth plan (just to be prepared) and it has been approved. So, I will stay narcotic-free, baby will be able to be with me in recovery for skin to skin time and nursing, baby will room in and, if for some reason he needs to be taken away for any amount of time, DH gets to be with him wherever he goes. All of that makes me feel better about it all, because I know he's going to be scared and I want to be able to hold and comfort him as soon as possible.

Anyway, I feel like I'm rambling! But thanks again for the warm thoughts and encouraging posts. I'll be sure to post an update with pictures when he's here on Tuesday. The hospital has free wi-fi in the rooms, so I'm definitely taking my laptop!

Best wishes to all the other moms who have just birthed, are birthing now, or getting ready to birth! I look forward to reading more happy announcements this week!!

I just had my VBAC, but my first was a scheduled cesarean due to breech. It was very peaceful and I had a great recovery.

Wishing you a safe and peaceful experience.
