Ok, I know this movie is old and there are other threads about it but I just saw it and IT IS AWESOME! Sooo...anyone willing to talk about it again?

LOVED this movie. It could have easily fallen apart as a script but somehow it all worked. Parts which could have been completely over the top were in fact absolutely hilarious and believable. (I LOVE the bit about the horn. It's my favorite bit in the whole film.)

Love it! : I admit I saw it because the little girl's name is Olive and I have an Olive. But it was such a great movie. I love the brother character and the relationship between him and his uncle.

I loved Little Miss Sunshine as well. Just so funny and so real.

I had a heated discussion with my father-in-law. He didn't like the movie because he thought it glorified dysfunctional families. He also thought it portrayed Olive's character as ugly. He felt that the actress would have lasting issues over it. I could understand someone not liking a movie, but for him to have such a way-off-base take on it blew me away.

I for one felt that many families are like the one portrayed in the movie. And yeah, they may be somewhat "dysfunctional" but not nearly as bad as it could get! And the Olive character, I never thought she was being portrayed as ugly. Just the average girl at that age in sort of a awkward phase. Heck, I looked just like Olive in 5th grade.

Anyhow, I LOVED IT!

one of my most favorite go-to movies of all time-what an amazing cast-Alan Arkin was brilliant, as was Paul Dano (I have a highly inappropriate crush on him.) I honestly can watch this movie so often-it's just the best.

When we rented it, we were expecting an RV type movie (Robin Williams). But it was only better for not being!

Marysmama, I have seen that actress in other stuff, and your fil need have no worries!

That seems really weird. Aside from what that says about what we think of as "ugly" in this society, Olive was already supposed to have won at least one pageant!

I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected to on the first run through - just not what I was expecting. When I watched it again a few days later, I really enjoyed it. I don't think I was expecting a burlesque routine.

"Everybody, just... pretend to be normal."

Sounds like something my parents would say.

I looooved this movie! I think it does an amazing job of portraying normal dysfunction, if there is such a thing, because every family has their own brand of dysfunction.

My favorite quote from the movie: "Every night it's the f*****g chicken! Holy God Almighty! Is it possible just once we could get something to eat for dinner around here that's not the goddamned f*****g chicken?"

Agreed, I thought this movie was hilarious!!! I wasn't really expecting much when I first saw it and came out more than pleasantly surprised.

"I'm madly in love with you and it's not because of your brains or your personality." LOL

I wanna watch again now!

Me, too! I absolutely loved this movie. I was just thinking about it at lunchtime, and how the little girl has blossomed into a stunning girl.

Wow, yeah..I didn't think it was negative at all...it was like...look, everyone's family is far from perfect but the point is if the love is there it will work out. And Olive was just a typical little girl and she obviously had so much confidence.
