I am new to this and ds is going to be two on the 24th. I have two sposies left and i am not looking back no more lol. I have about 5 or 6 prefold and 6 fitted and 3 aios i also have 5 microfiber towels i picked up yesterday. I also have 6 covers too. ds has had diarrhea and i would really like to not buy any sposies because i finall got dh excited about this and he said last night that he was going to buy some if it got worse. Anyways my problem is that i dont have that many diapers and i wash the diapers as much as possible right now. Washing 2 loads a day just rotating them. here are a few questions.
1. If for some reason they was all in the wash what do i use??
2. how often do you wash your covers? These are just reagular waterproof wraps.
3.how long will it take me to find a good routine for nightime diapering?
4.what worked for you on nighttime diapering?
5. i also read that microfiber can be very drying if used agiants the skin. Would it be alright to put him in these at night?

Hi Kim - we're in the same ddc! Sounds like come Aug, we'll both have two in dipes!!! Yikes!

I'll answer your ????'s the best I can...

If everything's in the wash, and you are desparate, you can always steal a hand towel from the bathroom, fold it so it fits in your cover (tri-fold, maybe?)... If you can sew at all, you might be able to make some prefolds from recycled materials. Old sheets, flannel jammies, etc. Look for 100% cotton. Also, a lot of people use flats, (google how to fold them) so any large square of cotton fabric can be folded to use. You would just need some way to finish off the edges so it doesn't unravel.

If my covers have not gotten soiled (= pooped on), I reuse them probably 4-6 times. I don't really count. The diarrhea is tough though. Count on them getting soiled more often.

Night diapering can take a little trial and error. You can try a few things. Using 2 prefolds is an option. Don't put the microfiber next to baby's skin!! Even just touching it to sew with it makes my hands very dry. I wouldn't put it next to the skin, but you can put your microfiber towel inside or under a prefold, then put it inside the cover. That actually might work well for night. Hemp works really well for us at night, in some form. If we use a pocket diaper, we use a microfiber/hemp insert. Or a hemp fitted with a cover. A hemp prefold works well, too. If you have a lot of layers, it might be bulky, but the kid doesn't usually care too much.

Just another little idea, if you're having trouble getting the poo off the diapers, a piece of polyester fleece lain inside the dipe helps a lot. The poo comes off the fleece a lot easier than it does a pf or something. You can just use fleece from Joann's or whatever.

Stay committed! YOu'll figure it out.
