Back to prefolds?

So I used prefolds and then pockets with DD. I thought I would do the same for DS. But... the pockets have not been working for us. I have Bumgenius mostly and some WAH types. All are one-size or multisize pocket diapers. He wets through them. I add doublers, he wets through or around them. And the velcro comes apart like crazy. All but 1 or 2 are velcro. Mostly I think this is our washer-dryer (the LG kind that does both) and the fact that it doesn't do a good job with lint so stuff ends up linty and velcro on anything gets pretty ruined. So the velcro doesn't stay on. Maybe the washer-dryer is screwing up the fabric in the pockets as well. That could make them leak too, right? But the inserts are always SOAKED so I think it's not that. And DS takes the diapers off, even if they're under clothes.

So, we've been using disposables now for longer than I want to admit. I want to get back to cloth diapers.

Anyway, this has gotten way too long and musing. What works for your heavy wetters?

I love prefolds with wool at night.... little to no leaks....and thristies covers over prefolds during the day.

greenhorn bamboo inserts, in either GADs, Knickernappies Disposanots, or Fuzzi Bunz. (We don't do velcro - WAY too easy for them to get it off!)

I don't dry my pockets in the the dryer...that may be the issue? If the inserts are soaked, and that's when he's leaking, you may just need to change more often...how often do you change now? What are you stuffing your pockets with? Microfiber inserts do nothing for my kids.

Hemp has been really helpful for us. In our pockets, we usually use a combo of mf and hemp together.

But more and more, sigh...I opt for something simpler, like pf's or fitteds. I get so sick of stuffing pockets sometimes!

Right now, my ds has on a hemp sugarpeas 2-size diaper, with a SugarPeas fleece cover. That works well for us at night.

I also use prefolds and covers during the day. It's just easier with two in diapers. The folding and stuffing time is nothing. LOL.
