bsww - newborn or small?

ive been looking all over for a recommendation on this subject but havent found one yet...

im planning on picking up some bsww's for baby (coming any day now!) and i dont know if i should get the newborn size or small. the chart says that newborn is 7-10 lbs and small is 8-15.

does one pound make a huge difference in this cover? my baby will probably be around 7lbs at birth judging by how im measuring (so unreliable) but also by my first who was 7lbs 1oz but wore disposables, so i dont have a way to compare!

tia!

It's a hard call. If it were me, I'd get at least a couple in the smaller size. Sometimes babes lose a little bit after birth...and it's so important to have good fit when nb's have messy poop...and my guess is they'll last you a couple months at least...

Some people might be able to skip the nb, but I'd be nervous about leaking.

you will definitely be glad you bought the nb size, unless you have a very large baby! its so worth it as its so hard to get a too big cover to fit on snug on a newborn.

My dd was about 7lb 12 oz when she was born and I went through the NB size in about 2 weeks. I personally would start with the smalls immediately and just wrap tighter. There is a band of velcro all the way across the front so you can make the waist as tight as you like. I also EC though so I did not have to worry about the poop messes that the other posters spoke of.

I had an 8 lb 4 oz dd and she used the newborn size for 6 weeks. Definitely worth it.

So much depends on the shape of the baby. I had a 8lb 4oz short guy (19.75"?) and newborn never fit. Small was outgrown by 10 weeks.

The newborns fit dd for a long time. The smalls are a lot bigger and would have swallowed her at birth. She was several months old before she fit in the small better than the newborn.

I feel like the bummis run a little on the bigger side. My dd who is two now still fit medium and and she wore the newborn size for months after she was born.

Just echoing that for us, the nb size were a good investment. If the covers are too big, you're more prone to blowouts and leaks, creating more laundry and reducing the diaper love.

nb for sure. The smalls are HUGE.
