? about short rows & wrapped stitches

I've finally committed to learning how to knit socks and am knitting a pair for my daughter. I'm using the pattern for 'House Quidditch Socks' from [U]Charmed Knits[U]. It's a toe-up pattern, and I've made it all the way to the heel...
But here's my problem: I understand how to wrap stitches for short rows, but I'm having a hard time knitting those wrapped stitches. From what I understand, I have to pick up the two loops from the wrap and slip them onto the left needle. Then I'm supposed to knit those together with the first stitch that's there. I just can't get those three knit together... it's SOOO tight!!

So... any hints, oh expert sock knitters? Or can you tell me what will happen if I just knit the wrapped stitch without picking up those extra loops? That's what I'm tempted to do...

I don't think I would not pick up the loops, I think it would come out really holey or loose or something unfortunate. Are you moving the wrapped stitch to the right hand needle to pick up the wraps with the tip of the left hand needle? I do it that way, and then move the "bundle" of stitches (stitch +two wraps) back to the left needle and then knit or purl from there. Hope that helps. And please post pictures when you are done! I was eyeing that pattern and I'd like to see how it comes out for you.

Frog back and do THIS instead. If you knit wrapped stitches and don't pick up, you will have a fugly bumpy mess which will hurt your footsies. It's not worth it, honest.

The skills I'll have when I finally finish this sock! Er... PAIR of socks.
