suggestions for rug cleaner

Hi,
We recently put down some new (used) rugs. We have a 7 month old who is down on them alot. How do I clean them? What is the way for the environment and my babe?

Beating them outside works well.
But I am assuming you mean disinfecting them?
A good steam cleaner will do that. You wouldn't need a big one if they are just area rugs.
