Due Date Sunday - Enema strictly for bad constipation?

Thread Starter
My constipation has been really awful this last week. I was going to do an enema with my only goal to relieve some of the "pressure." Should I call my midwife first and give her a heads up? With my last pregnancy I went 12 days post due date (tried everything, nothing worked but time) and am not interested in helping labor start only in being more comfortable.

Thoughts?

Thanks - Katherine

I was having diarrhea for a few weeks (not severe), and now I'm a bit constipated too. I think it's all the dairy I've been consuming. I am due the day before you, and wondering if it's safe to take any sort of laxative or whathaveyou. I don't want to do an all-out-enema though.

You can give her heads up but I think as long as you stay hydrated during and after the enema(and its after effect) then you should be fine. Have you tried Miralax or drinking a strong pot of coffee. The coffee works wonders on lots of people. Hope you feel better soon.

Not in this DDC but wanted to 2nd the coffee idea. It always works for me.
Or to get my labor going last time my MW suggested smooth move tea. Steeped very strong. You could steep it regular or just a little and see if that works. It actually tastes pretty good too! Something a little less powerful than an enema always looks more appealing to me!

Why don't you just take some Milk of Magnesia? Or a couple of magnesium supplements? That would be fast and effective. If you had coffee AND magnesium, I think it would be pretty drastic, LOL! Good luck with that. I sure would not do an enema.
