I've heard that oil pulling can help. I've also heard that flouride (like in your tootpaste) can contribute to deep pockets around the teeth. I have deep pockets and receeding gums. I switched (about two weeks ago) to soap as toothpaste, and oil pulling, and my gums are looking healthier already (not puffy and red anymore, and they don't bleed when brushing or flossing)

I have a couple teeth that have/had pockets, not too bad though. Too much brushing/flossing my whole life!

I bought a water pik about 1 month ago. I have NEVER had a healthy feeling mouth in my life despite have healthy teeth, very few cavities etc. 3 days after I starting using it, my gums were firmer, no puffy anywhere, my headaches went away, it was down right amazing

We have flouride in our water here...do I have to use bottled water to avoid this?

As for the water pick...do you use toothpaste too?

You know I do.....but I use just some natural kind once a day with a sonicare on gentle. I use the water pick twice a day, or if I ate something that I fear could get stuck ( I have 2 crowns) I just shoot that spot real quick.

I have actually gone 3 days with no tooth paste, jsut brush with water and use the waterpik, but i do prefer toothpaste beause my breathe feels fresher to me. I use a xylitol mouthwash too.

I have this one and I LOVE it. I am really commited to using it every single day twice because it really feels great, which is why I bought one that came with a travel one. When I go to my moms for the day with my kids I bring that one. You just put warm water in it, this model holds a lot of water which I like because you don't have to refill it.

no way to reverse recession other than surgically (grafts like you obviously have had) BUT there are ways to avoid having it progress more...don't use any abrasive toothpastes--be very careful when you choose a paste- many natural ones are VERY abrasive. Use an electric toothbrush, they help you to not brush too hard and wear away your gums.

Also, unless it bothers you (sensitive, esthetic problem, lack of attached gingiva--the tough part that resists food and inflammation), you don't HAVE to treat recession

and fluoride doesn't cause pocketing.

Are there anyother recommended comapanies for an oral irrigator? ON Dentist.net I noticed a few companies but don't know much about them?

Thanks, Sara
