Something my mom shared with me today

So I switched OB's and was filling out the "new kid" paperwork at the office. My mom was with me for my appointment. On the back there was a list of diseases and conditions that you were supposed to circle if they applied to you. As I'm going down the list my mom leans over and goes, "Oh, you had Whooping Cough as a child." I stopped and just LOOKED at her. I said, "I didn't know that. Was that after I was vaccinated?" She knows my stance on vaxes and I've been able to sway her to my side. She says, "Yep, you sure were." I rolled my eyes and said, "It's stuff like that..." and kept filling out the form.

*sighs* Just thought I'd share...I was born in 1987 and the vaxes still weren't "working"

: I wish I had a personal story like that to tell! You must have had it really really young if you don't remember! And look at that...you lived to tell the tale!

My DF had both measles and mumps after getting the MMR. (A fair time after, not from the vax itself, but the vax clearly didn't work.)

I've never had anything, including CP, which I was never vaxed for.

I've never had anything, either, including chicken pox.

Years ago when I was pg with DS2, my OB was worried about my not having had CP, because there was an outbreak at the time. One of my co-workers had it....she was 24 and miserable! I think she was out of work for nearly a month.

Anyway, they drew blood on me and I have CP antibodies. I'm not really sure how that happened. My parents insist I never had CP. I've been exposed to it at least a half-dozen times that I know of.

I and DH have both had Chicken Pox and I have had Mumps. I was 7 for CP and 9 or 10 for Mumps. So I didn't get it from the vax, which I did get as a baby.

I was discussing this with my FIL last night and he said his daughter got WC TWICE when she was a child...yep, after being vaxed.

So...explain to me why we even vax for it anymore?

To add to the value of this wonderful vaccine...

it is very doubtful that it provides herd immunity in any way, shape or form

and it is one of the most reactive of vaccines
