Fuzzi Bunz as a nighttime diaper?

I use prefolds and Thirsties covers during the day, but disposables at night. What can I say? They hold a heck of a whole lot more, and I am not changing diapers in the middle of the night unless I have to.

But now that my little bugger is bigger (about 15-16 pounds) and not likely to grow out of a medium anytime soon, I want to get 3 or 4 really absorbant cloth diapers and ditch the disposables if possible. Is there any reason Fuzzi Bunz (or another pocket) wouldn't work? I found some on sale (no inserts) that I think would make us break even or come out better ($ wise) in the long run. Problem is, since she can soak a (infant) prefold in 2 hours sometimes, and that's what I'd be using to stuff them, I'm not sure it would work for overnight. Or would the premium size prefold fit in it?

Also, would I just wash the fuzzi bunz or any other type of synthetic diaper with my prefolds or would that cause a problem? Thanks folks!

ETA: I know a bunch of you swear by wool, but that's not gonna be the answer for me. I'd ruin them somehow.

I love love my pocket dipes for night time. I use BG's for nightime with the large and small insert and I've never had a leak. She goes from midnight until 7:30 in the diaper. I don't see why FuzziBunz wouldn't work the same way as long as you get a few microfiber terry inserts for them.

I haven't had much luck with FB overnight. Bum Genius had worked great for us until recently, but I think the reason for our recent problems is wear and tear on the diapers we have. We've stuffed them with two newborn inserts or in a pinch a prefold and that worked well.

I can fit two or even three infant prefolds into my medium FBs. Mine are the old style, but I hear the new style is actually cut bigger, so you should be able to do the same. A pocket diaper only works as well as what you stuff it with, so you'll find that you have to really stuff the heck out of them to get through the night. Prefolds will work fine in a pocket diaper, but you might get more absorbency with less bulk if you use a microfiber or hemp insert-- those seem to absorb a touch more than cotton for their bulk.

I used FBs at night with my kids until they got to about 10 months old, and then they were just wetting too much and I couldn't fit enough stuffing into them to get through the night. At that point, we used a giant fitted diaper with a premium prefold folded into it, and wool over top of everything.

I use fuzzi bunz EVERY NIGHT. I love them. I stuff them with 2 microfiber inserts and NEVER get a leak.

(And my daughter is on a diuretic twice a day for her congenital heart disease: 1 dose is administered right before bed, so her nighttime diaper is WET, believe me. In fact, the handful of times I've used disposables on her-- like when we're visiting family-- she often leaks through those!)

If I ever did need even more absorbancy, I think I would buy a couple hemp inserts in addition to my microfiber stash: put 1 hemp insert on the bottom and 1 microfiber on the top (microfiber absorbs faster; hemp absorbs more). I can't imagine that not doing the trick.

Ok, thanks for all the info ladies! I would like to get away without having to buy extra stuffers, but it seems like they won't hold enough otherwise. My main reason for cloth diapering is the cost (although the environmental impact thing is also very nice!), so I'll have to crunch the numbers and see if it comes out cheaper even if I buy the doublers. Right now I only spend about $7 a month on disposables (use less than a pack a month, and I buy the cheap ones ). However, the size mediums say they go up to 30-32 pounds, and I'm betting that's a long way off since she's just 4 months old.

Medium fuzzi bunz fit my son up until just before his 3rd birthday, when he was fully potty trained. (They fit double stuffed then, too.) Definitely a good long-term investment. Especially since you'd probably only need 2-3, depending on how often you wash diapers.

Oh wow! Then they're definitely worth it, especially if they hold up (the ones I found on sale are seconds). I'm thinking 3-4 of them, because I only wash twice a week. Now to double check that our bank account will allow for a random diaper expenditure...

Yeah, we never needed larges either, just mediums. DD1 wore them until she was three, and DS is 2 and still in them. They fit a long time. And infant prefolds will work-- it's just that they'll be bulky.

Until DD developed a polyester allergy, we used our FB every night--they were awesome. She nurses all night too, so she wets a lot. I used one microfiber insert and one hemp insert (JoeyBunz Hemparoos), with the microfiber closest to the fleece and the hemp closest to the PUL. 2 microfibers wasn't enough for us.

LOVE my FBs, especially at night. If you're worried you could stuff 2 inserts in the dipe.....or what I used to do was put one in and then double-over the second insert and put that in the front area where ds wet more.

These are all I use at night. I stuff mine with a bamboo greenhorn insert, and no leaks!!

We use pockets at night - just have to stuff wisely. : )

We like a combo of mf and hemp - either a combo insert or 2 full size mf inserts and one full size hemp insert. That gets us 12 hours without any trouble most nights! We have a night leak maybe once every 6 weeks or so. Not too bad. (But ds doesn't wake up, we just find him wet in the morning.)

As long as you can get the legs tight enough with the amount of inserts you have, you will be fine. The maximum number of inserts we can get is the regular MF insert the FB comes with, a hemp doubler, and a MF doubler. The hemp should go on the bottom. Any thicker and I can't get it tight around her thighs. An infant pf and a hemp doubler should be fine.
