Head covering making? x-posted in spirituality

I know that this probably belongs on the arts and crafts board, but I posted there previously and got no response, and was hoping that I might get some here. If anyone makes their own head-coverings, what kind of fabric do you use? I want something natural, but I have no clue what to use. Probably cotton, but what type?

I'm thinking sort of scarfs (tichels, etc), and maybe some kercheif types. I love these: (I was going to put some of the scarves from tznius.com here, but I realized that at those prices, it might well be less expensive to buy some of them than make them.) these though I want to make something like: http://www.headcoverings-by-devorah...._mimkhatah.htm

I also want to make a mantilla type thing. But I'm not sure about the lace. Is it possible to get affordable cotton lace or something? (I'm thinking like trm28 in terms of shapehttp://www.headcoverings-by-devorah.com/headcoverings_trimmed_veils_mantillas.htm) Any advice about sewing lace?

Something like the lace one you could use "laced curtain" fabric.

As for what other type of fabric, I'd stick with linens, cottons, and hemp/combo. Even a crepe silk will be nice and still give you some "air", or a rayon perhaps. In the winter a nice crepe wool would be light, yet give you some added warmth, or a heavier cotton. I'd look for something with a nice "drape" to it, don't limit yourself to just "fashion" fabrics, sometimes over in the "home-deco" section they have very beautiful 100% cotton or 100% silk that may work for you.

You can also take a simple cotton or linen and embroider on it, black work/red work, what ever is simple, and it'll dash it up to something simplistically elegant. For "evening" atire you can also jazz it up with pearls and/or other beads.
