Appalachia books?

Does anyone have recommendations for books about Appalachia? I'd like stories, either fiction or non-fiction, about life in that region...

Sharyn McCrumb has a series set in Appalachia...The Ballad Series. They are well-researched and have very good story-lines.

But it's set in Indiana.

I'm not sure if you're looking for historical books or not, but Christy by Cathrine Marshall takes place in the 1920s (I believe) in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Tennessee. It's fiction but based on the life of her mother.

I loved Christy! Amazing book. I think there was a movie too, but it couldn't have held a candle to the books. Sharyn McCrumb is pretty good, but in a totally different vein than Catherine Marshall (if she's more your style). I liked both, but I'm always looking for more Appalachian literature!

My favorite is At Home in the Heart of Appalachia. It's non-fiction.
