I bought a Vintage Singer this fall and after sinking a little over $100 into a vintage Singer (machine plus tune up costs) I ended up with one that still doesn't sew right. I've been able to limp along for the past couple of months, but I've got a pile of projects I'd *like* to do that I *won't* do because I don't want to struggle along the way.
I've contemplated taking the machine back in, but am not too keen on putting more money into it - especially since I'd really like one that could do a zig zag and a buttonhole (w/out requiring me to hunt down a separate attachment).
I know the vintage ones are "better", but I'm a bit shy of buying one again. Is there a new sewing machine out there that's half-way decent for under $600?
