I usually use cheaptickets.com to find a low rate, but go to the hotel site directly to book, and get it cheaper.
Also, the last couple times we've traveled, we've spent much *more* for a suite with a full kitchen. Then we hit Whole Foods and/or Trader Joe's when we get there, and cook all our food in the room. If driving, I also bring a skillet and a pyrex pan, along with some cooking utensils, because you never know what's going to be in the room. (You may also want to bring a travel bottle full of dishwashing liquid; they usually have a mini-dishwasher and tablets for it, but nothing for hand-washing.)
Ultimately, we spend less on food + hotel this way, especially because we're GFCF (and corn-free, and soy-free, and egg-free for me and the baby). We also have more space, and yummy food, and all that jazz.
