Earthboxers (The Real Thing, and DIY-ers) Thread

Thought it would be nice to have a thread just for Self-Watering Container users.

Mine are DIY-style - I'm planning tomatoes and peppers in 5-gallon buckets, I've got zukes and beans already in some Rubbermaid-ish totes, lettuce and spinach also in Rubbermaids (smaller), and have some other things sprouting away that will eventually get in them - cukes, squash, and I'm going to try a sugar baby watermelon in one as well.

Anyone else using this method?

Hi there!
I am going to be doing all container gardening for the 1st time this year. Am both excited & a little overwhelmed! I am going with the Earthboxes but not their mix & such-just the set up. I will get my mix & fertilizer from Gardensupply.com because they have an amazing organic mix.

I am starting out with all organic seeds & this week will be getting them going in our sunroom. Using this site & a few others for lots of info & support.

I am going to try:
3 diff tomatoes
1 pickling cucumber
2 diff melons
peppers
spinach
lettuce
carrots
onions
cilantro & basil

I really want to get strawberries going too & am contemplating getting crowns & giving it a try.

So exciting!

I am going this! I am a total newbie, so I probably don't have any good advice to share, but I will have plenty of questions!

I ordered some heirloom tomato seedlings to be delivered in mid April and have my 18 gallon rubbermaids. Now I need to make the self watering containers and figure out what type of potting mix to use (was originally going with square foot garden but DH nixed it because he didn't want me to destroy the sod ). I don't think "Mel's Mix" works with self watering containers, right?
