I dont wanna sound stupid - but where do I get seed potatos??

Okay I got the wood and bags of garden soil today to make my raised garden beds. I wanted to try potatos but dont know where to get the seed potatos (I heard that you shouldn't use the ones from grocery because they are treated with a chemical to prevent the eyes from forming.).
Also - my boxes will be about 12inches deep - so how much depth would I need for potatos? Deeper?

We have a farm supply place nearby that carries them. If you aren't in a very rural area you may need to call around and find one.

If you buy organic the potatoes are not sprayed and will work fine. I have 10 plants right now from organic reds I bought to eat and planted what sprouted. I have gotten yummy potatoes this way before.

They may not have any left, but you can also try the Seed Savers Exchange. THey have lots of great types of seed potatoes!

Farm and garden stores like Agway have them. You can mail-order them, too, for instance from Ronniger Potatoes, Irish Eyes, or Wood Prairie Farm.

12 inches should be deep enough. The potatoes you'll harvest will all grow above the seed piece you plant, so you don't want to plant it just below the surface unless you're going to pile a lot of straw or something over the bed as the plants grow.

I got mine from Wood Prarie Farm. Organic and they signed the Safe Seed Pledge. Wonderfully pleasant on the phone and fast shipping.
