OK, so thx to some MDC mamas, I learned the importance of letting the powder detergent agitate in the water before I put the load in, in order to let the powder dissolve and turn into suds.
Since I started doing this I have seen more suds than ever before, and it is really helping my relationship with BioKleen, which I thought didn't work at all because it never ever got sudsy for me, but obviously now I realize that was probably because I was adding the load, detergent, and water all at the same time.
I do a cold wash with approx 1 tablespoon detergent, 1 hot wash with the same amt of detergent, and an extra warm rinse. I have an older top loader.
Question: Now that I am adding the detergent properly, the cold wash gets nice and sudsy. But what do you powdered detergent users do in terms of adding detergent to the second (hot) wash, when the diapers are still in the washer from the first round? I've been sprinkling the detergent on top of the diapers and the hot wash never ever gets sudsy at all, which seems odd to me given that it's hot water vs cold, and that the cold cycle (with the same amt of detergent) gets soooo sudsy.
I think it would be a little nuts to take the wet diapers out just to be able to add the powder and let the water agitate the powder to get suds for the second cycle, but is that what others do?
I tried mixing the powder with warm water and then pouring it into the washer as it fills for the second cycle, and this hasn't seemed to have made a change - still no suds. I'm wondering if I am just totally wasting detergent to be using in this second cycle if it doesn't even suds at all.
Is this how it is for you powder detergent users? Any hints?
(I know, I know, I said I wouldn't ask any more questions about diaper care, but you've all been so helpful, and I feel like I am thisclose to arriving at a care system that "works for us"!!
)
