Where to Put...

... the portable DVD player?

We don't have a TV, and the portable DVD player is mostly DD's. I don't like for her to camp out watching it, so I try to put it the cabinet, where it's out of sight. This means she watches it less, but she also pulls everything else out of the cabinet when she goes to get it (she's three). All that stuff is just really interesting, I guess.

Well, I could put it on her playstands, where she actually can put stuff away, but then the DVD player is just there, staring at her, begging to be watched.

What should I do? Keep the house cleaner, or risk her watching more?

are those the only two places you could put it? what about putting it in some completely inaccessible (to her) place? on a high shelf in your bedroom, etc? somewhere that doesn't have any of her stuff in it at all, kwim? at 3yo she probably doesn't need to have any sort of access to it but can ask for it when she wants it, kwim? and it probably doesn't even need to be in the main play space either. that's what we did when we used our portable for our DD.

If you need to leave it out "in view" could you sew a dust cover for it.

For my children that might be out of sight enough to not draw their attention all the time.
