Pubic Bone Pain Question

Thread Starter
I had my 6th child 3.5 weeks ago~ Not every day but sometimes I go to stand up from sitting for a while & my pubic bone hurts so bad I can barely walk. The first few steps are killers & then I can walk a little better(I look like a little old lady with arthritis!) Sometimes I also have these little electric type feelings in my groin/pubic bone area This is not fun! I am looking for some ideas/exercises to help fix the area?

Any ideas?

Can you see a physical therapist? I'm 23 weeks with baby #2 and my pubic bone is separating early and causing a lot of pain. I went to see a PT for something else and she has been able to help me and wants to see me immediately postpartum to address the issue further and help me heal. She did say they are finding if problems aren't addressed right away they can surface again as we get older. Yuck.

Sounds like issues with the pubic symphysis. I would recommend PT or even better- a chiro.

Very painful. I'm so sorry! But it can be fixed

i would also consider a PT or chiro.

i had a similar issue with specific movements, so i used yoga (gently) to solve it. but i do yoga therapy, so i knew what i was doing. not all teachers do. anyway, it's completely cleared up now.

I'm reading a book right now about this, it's written by a physiotherapist from Netherlands named Cecile Rost, it's called Relieving Pelvic Pain During and After Pregnancy. Myself I have had chronic pelvic pain, both in SI joint and in the SP joint for nearly 3 years now. My chiro helps a lot but I'm hoping that the exercises in this book will help more too. Essentially you need to stretch teh muscles on the insides and fronts of your thighs & groin. It's going to feel counterintuitive to do this but what you're trying to do is realign the SI joint (if you're having SP joint pain your whole pelvis is likely unstable). Basics for just moving around - don't cross your legs or sit with your knees tightly together, keep space between your knees. Stand on both feet evenly, don't let yourself stand mostly on 1 leg. Ummm. what else... basic stretch is to lie on your back with the soles of your feet touching each other so your knees are spread wide - try to relax in this position until it doesn't hurt anymore, it can take 20 minutes (I do it when I'm in bed before I fall asleep, it's the only time I really get to lie down).

But anyway the book is not very expensive and I think it's going to be a good investment for me. And chiro, preferably one that works with pregnant bodies (I know you're not pg anymore but your pelvis is behaving as if it is)...

anyway tons of sympathy from me to you. It's been a long time for me because I babied my body and was afraid to move and stretch and I think I could have healed much faster if I had been doing the right exercises sooner.

Mama I would definitely recommend a chiropractor!

I had bad pubic pains during pregnancy and it was because my baby was carried so low from the beginning that she was pushing against my pubic bone making it shift. I saw a chiro and it helped a lot. After I had the baby I had more pain there and got adjusted and it helped a lot too. Now I don't have any pains there.
