Anyones midwife tell them no brazilian waxes?

I'm not sure how many of you wax (alot of us are hippies who don't LOL and this is my mainstream bit I guess, LMAO). I had one done before I went to PR. (totally bare, butt crack and all). I have noticed ingrown hairs pretty bad. I asked some of the girls in my DDC and one said that her midwife said NO brazilians? I plan on asking my midwife, but anyone know why? I am posting this here because I know homebirth mamas use midwives so I was just seeing.

I've never had one, personally, but I know a woman who got one while pregnant and said she's never do it again. That area is more sensitive when pregnant, and she said the pain was excruciating. So you might want to take that into consideration.

I asked my wax lady about it, because a LOT of my clients wax, and she says there's no contra-indication for waxing while pregnant, besides possible increased sensitivity. But if the lady doesn't mind, I sure don't.

I think that with ingrown hairs, you have a slightly higher risk of infection to the area. But I'm just guessing.

Ouch!
I don't think there's any extra risk though.

After asking a cosmetologist friend, she said that often times they are weary of waxing a woman late in pregnancy and usually recommend that their clients avoid waxing at that point because the potential for skin breakage and bleeding is much higher, since the area has more blood flowing to the area and is much more sensitive.

I got Brazilian waxes all the way up to 34 weeks. I was pregnant during the summer and spent a lot of time at the lake and the beach, and shaving by the end of my pregnancy was nearly impossible. Much easier to have someone deal with it for me.

I didn't find it to be any more painful than when I am not pregnant, but I couldn't take ibuprofen afterwards which was kind of a bummer.

My last one I was pregnant. My hair was sort of short (I go 6-8 weeks and have to buzz in between so she can get wax on and pull without it tangling). So she had to keep going over and over and over the same spot (I am know this is not the RIGHT thing to do, but I asked her to since I was wearing a small bikini and I wanted it BARE) So I did pull some skin on one labia. I think I may leave the hair on my labia from now on and a little landing strip or something.

The ingrown is so bad tho, it freakin hurts! If that happens again I will go to just doing my butt and inner thigh area. That is a must for me.

Thanks everyone! I know this was OT

I don't do brazilian but I regularly do bikini line. However, when I did it pg - I actually bruised. BADLY. I had these big rectangular bruises on my bikini line instead of hair... certainly not any more attractive and seriously painful.

Okay, I'm not a bikini waxer at all, but I recently read something in a beauty column of a magazine about the potential hazards of waxing that area. Apparently, if the place where you get your waxing done isn't following health guidelines and re-uses a pot of wax or double dips, you can potentially be exposed to other clients' infectious diseases of that region ().

i got a hollywood twice when i was pregnant but i bruised SO BAD. never found any information to say it was dangerous in pregnancy but it was definitely painful.

I do these. None of my midwives have said anything about no bald eagle waxing

I get brazilians but I do sugaring instead of waxing, It's less painful because the sugar only sticks to your hair, and not your skin. And you get less ingrown hairs because they pull with the hair instead of against it. I got sugared all through my pregnancy, the last time was 4 days before my homebirth. I never noticed any increase in pain but I did get really hot (more than usual) with that warm sugar near my nether regions. My sugar person said they frequently sugar pregnant women who are near birth.

FWIW, my midwife never said anything before it before my birth, or during, or after.
