After a very quick 90 minute labor, my baby was born yesterday, March 8th at 10:55 a.m. via home waterbirth. He weighs 11 lbs. 3 oz. and is 22 inches long.
I woke up with low cramps, as I have been having off and on for weeks. I made some soup to have for lunch after church, and breakfast. During breakfast I had a contraction that made me take notice, but wasn't too bad- it was 9:25 a.m. I took a shower and dried my hair and had a couple more nothing very regular in intensity or duration. Around 10 I told DH today might be the day, and he wanted to call the midwife, but I said let's wait and try and time them. 20 minutes, and 4 contractions later, the midwife said she would be right over. DH and the kids set up the birth pool. I paced around the house and breathed through the tough spots. The midwife arrived and tried to listen to the baby's heartbeat and take my blood pressure, when the contractions changed and I couldn't help but bear down. I got into the birth pool and on the next contraction my bag of waters felt like it exploded from the pressure. On the next contraction, our baby was here. DH got to catch him. He didn't cry at all- just opened one eye and made little grunts. I was so surprised he was a boy, because I was SO certain he was a boy.
We named him River, which was originally the middle name the kids selected for the baby and Justin, after my brother. He had a little bit of wet breathing, and took a little bit long to pink up- so we kept a good eye on him and he is doing fine now and nursing great. He is a very sweet boy and loves to have his downy little head rubbed.
