Scary two day hospital stay.....

Well, little Jacob and I are just home from the hospital, again. On Sat. nite at about 11, he turned purple and stopped breathing. I patted his chest and back until he began breathing again, and thought it was a fluke. He was fine for about another hour and half, and then he did it again. After a total of five times of him doing this, dh and I were out the door to the hospital. Once we got to the ER they sent us from our local hosptial to the the big children's hospital a few cities away, we had to ride in the mobile ICU ambulance and my little man was all wired up and in the isolete.... it was so sad.

We spent all day sunday and today at the hospital, having tests run, blood work, x rays, etc. THey wanted to do a spinal tap and I refused, he is just too little and was not showing any signs of an illness.... so I refused, they were upset with me, but I promised that if he had any more issues, we would return to the hospital. Anyways, they couldn't really figure out what is going on, so they kept him on monitors for the two days..... we finally were freed today, but have to go to the peds for regular follow ups in a few days. They did mention that he could have been having seziures, since dh has them, but we are praying that wasn't it. HE has been happy and fine since, and I am so glad to be home.

oh mama, so sorry to hear this! I hope that it was just a fluke and everything will be fine!

When my DS was about 2wks old he had an episode where he stopped breathing for about 10seconds and we ended up spending the night at the hospital being monitored...the doctors told me that breathing issues such as that are very common in newborns because they don't remember they have to breath I was scared for a long time after that....

anyway...sending prayers your way!

I hope it never happens again. That must have been so scary!

That is terrifying! I am hoping that it was a one time thing, and never happens again.

Oh my goodness...my heart goes out to you! One thing to consider...is acid reflux or gerd...I know my little guy choked till blue a dozen times before we figured it out. Try keeping his head elevated and see if that helps at all. Keep waist bands super loose and keep meals small and frequent. Do a little research and discuss the possibility with your ped when you go. Hopefully..this scare was just his lungs clearing out for good and that was the end of the choking.

Much love.

I'm sorry, that must've been really scary. Ds1 had a couple episodes when he was a couple months old & we wound up in the hospital & then at home for a few days with him on a monitor. Ds3 had an incident the other night where he stopped breathing, too.

Oh goodness, how scary. I have heard, though, that newborns sometimes hold their breath, for whatever the reason...jeez, I hope he doesn't do that again...are you able to sleep ok or are you up worrying every second?

If it were me, I think I'd be keeping him in my arms as much as possible. I hope these were just strange isolated events and he is done!

Thanks ladies. He cosleeps, in my arms, so I do feel more comfortable... and I have been holding him all the time, he seems way too little for the sling or the mei tei still, so he just gets carried by me or dh. Right now, I convinced him to sit in the swing so I could have a break. Anyways, he seems happy and healthy right now!
