...and pregnancy. today at the clinic they said my tsh is 3.23 and that it looks fine. I get home and realize that 3.23 is too high! so now I'm worried. does anyone else here have hypothyroidism? it can change with pregnancy, and it's so important for the developing baby. ....hence my anxiety!

I have hypothyroidism. I'm not medicated because for awhile its been stable on its own. I do get mine checked throughout pregnancy though since it usually changes enough that I need to go back on Synthroid.

Did they measure your T3 and T4 levels as well?

Its possible your OB office doesn't realize the levels have changed. It used to be acceptable for your levels to be as high as 5. However its now 3, so you are correct, you're still too high.

I'd be calling the office.

I called the clinic back, and they refused to change my prescription. They said the high number is 5! I told them that that had changed. But they said no, my numbers were normal. ARGH! Guess I'll try to find a new doctor.

Your doctor isn't the only one. Many refuse to test using the new standards since it was merely a strong "suggestion" to change. I would talk to them though.

This site talks about the change

I'm having my numbers checked next week. And yes, I agree. You need to find a different doc. I had to find a new one originally (before pg) because my usual doc didn't think I was hypo with a TSH of 3.8 no matter how many other symptoms I had to go with it. This is my first pg being hypo so I'm a little nervous as to what to expect.

I called another clinic nearby today and they said that they also wouldn't change my medication; that 3.23 was normal! We're out here in rural MN, so I'm feeling a bit down about it since there is not much choice of doctors here.

this is the first time I've been pregnant while taking Armour Thyroid, however, and I wonder if that's the reason for my high numbers. With my last pregnancy (also while hypothyroid), I was taking Synthroid. I had my numbers checked frequently, and they were always low (below 2). I never had to get meds re-adjusted.

How odd is that? I thought Armour would give better results, but it looks as if maybe I should ask my doctor to switch me back to Synthroid. does anyone have a similar situation to this?

Pregnancy can change thyroid levels drastically, so even if you never had to have your meds changed before.. you very well could now. Different pregnancies do different things.

I'm generally not hypothyroid until after pregnancy, and then after awhile it corrects itself.
