Scared to use diaper rash cream

DD has a diaper rash...not sure if it's from the disposables (at night) or more likely the cloth wipes since I have been using water and a little baby wash on them before putting in the wipe warmer. I'm going to switch back to regular wipes for the time being.

Anyway, I have been reading posts on here about diaper rash creams that are safe for CDs. We're using Fuzzi Bunz and Bum Genius and since they're brand new I am afraid to ruin them. I just went out to get Burt's Bees diaper ointment, but then I went to http://www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com/ and it says that it may cause staining. I know that using liners would eliminate any problems, but I don't have any right now. Should I go back and get California Baby ointment instead? And is it safe to use that without liners and not get any build up on the dipes?

I've heard boudreaux's butt paste is ok but stains--I used it w/ PFs and it sunned out, though.

IME, the best treatment for diaper rash is sunlight and air, if possible

for a quick liner, you can cut up an old t-shirt or fleece sweatshirt or fleece blanket. I cut up an old fleece sweatshirt to make liners (someone on this forum gave me the idea) specifically for the times when I needed to use diaper rash cream. I used Triple Paste, which some say stains, and some say doesn't stain, so it depends who you ask.

If you do make liners, some people say you should wash them separately from your diapers to avoid contaminating your diapers with the diaper rash cream residue. I just handwashed the liners in the sink and then threw them in with a load of towels or something.

Good luck! I was really frustrated with rash for about 2 weeks a while back, and I finally linked it to a load of diapers that wasn't washed properly. DD hasn't had a trace of rash since, and it's been over a month

i have used bb rash cream with my bgs and fb and although sometimes if you put a lot on you can see it on the diaper, after a few washes on hot it comes out and it never effected the absorbency or anything like that. im not super anal about what the diaper looks like as long as it works, so when i saw the stain i didnt care and it did come out after several washes no problem.

oh i have also heard that if you have a rash cream stain, if you put dawn on a tooth brush and scrub the stain right before you throw it in the washer that does the trick!

Ooh, good tip about the Dawn. Thanks for your help! Rash is a little better after a night in disposables slathered with that STINKY A&D. Yuck!

Our daycare constantly used diaper rash cream on our BG--what I found worked well to get it out was to half-fill the washer with warm water, add a couple of squirts of Dawn, put in the covers, let it agitate for a couple of minutes, then stop the washer and let the covers soak overnight. Next morning, I would run a spin and drain, then a full warm wash cycle without any detergent. I'd do this every two to three weeks, or when they complained about the diapers starting to leak.

Dawn is a degreaser, and it works best when it's allowed to "eat" away at the grease via soaking.
