Did you lose your milk when you got pg?

I'm curious, and not finding any kinds of stats on this.

ETA: I mean, losing like you had to put your DC on formula. If you experienced a decrease that didn't need supplementation, please choose "No."

The most info that you will find on this subject is in the book, "Adventures in Tandem Nursing and Beyond". Many women do notice a decrease in supply, a lucky few won't. I always have completely lost my supply before the first tri was over.

Its not an issue for us because my daughter is 2.5yo, but my milk supply went down significantly around 8w into this pregnancy and I believe took another hit around 16w. My toddler still nurses, but obviously doesn't rely on my milk for the bulk of her nutrition and calories.

Around 20w for me.

I didn't loose my supply, well maybe slightly but dd nursed during my pregnancy until 7.5 months and then decided to stop herself, she wanted to leave the milk for the baby but she also said she didn't much like the taste - she went back to nursing a week after ds was born.

It decreased a bit around 20 weeks and then somewhere in the third trimester switched to colostrum (DS was psyched he loved it) but never dried up all the way.

I didn't have to supplement because DD was 20 mos and eating solids fine. it did make it easier to say no to her b/c I hurt since I knew there wasn't anything in there.

Oops - I didn't read the post-script. My DD was 18 mos when I got pg so I obviously didn't have to supplement with formula. But she went from drinking many ounces per day to getting NOTHING. We definitely had to drastically increase her food intake and water intake to compensate.

DS was right at 2 when I got pg. I don't know how it affected my supply because he was down to 1-2 sessions a day, mostly 1 just before bed. Sometimes even skipping a day. He decided to stop nursing during my second trimester.

i got pg for DS when DD3 was 5 months old. I lost my supply almost immediately. I am pregnant again and DS is 6 months old and so far I have a pretty good supply. I am supplementing him (finger feeding) about an ounce a day, but some days I don't and he seems just fine.

I lost mine about halfway through. If DS had been a baby he'd have needed supplementation.

My milk wenta way completely but I dind't vote because my children were old enough that they didn't need supplementation.

DS is 8 months old, and I am due in Sept, my milk supply is still there, but if I didn't have a HUGE freezer stash I'd probably need to consider supplementing with formula for at least 1 feeding a day. My supply tanked at about 11 weeks. I work hard to maintain some supply, but I can tell this will be a struggle. DS loves his solids (and I'm usually a delayed solids kinda mom) so that does seem to help as well... mmm... avacado....

Yes, however, DS was already weaning due to separation (custody issues) and he was 26 months old when I got pregnant. Had he been nursing on demand, I doubt it would have affected it so drastically and so early. The pregnancy was just another push on the weaning (though I would actually call it a nursing strike that resulted in weaning).

Like some others I voted while reading and didn't see the ETA... I *did* completely lose my milk sometime around, I dunno, 8-10 weeks? but DS1 was 3, so no supplementation necessary. No weaning happened either... he got to the point where he would sometimes go days between sessions, but he kept it up and now still nurses twice a day most days (and would nurse more if I hadn't limited him for sanity's sake!)

DD was about 15 months and I was around end first trimester when the bedtime drop happened. That was HORRIBLE as she was NOT having comfort nursing with no "meek". We went to bottled goat's milk at that point as she also would not take a cup.

I had milk for naptime for quite awhile after that....I would say though probably a couple months later it was pretty much no milk all the time and that is when she cut way back on her nursing. She was pretty much weaned (asking maybe once every few days) when ds arrived.

I voted yes before I saw that I should have voted no. DD was 2.5 so other than upping her liquids I didn't notice a change in her diet.

I lost mine around 2 months along when dd was 13 months old. We started rice milk in a sippy at that time but continued to dry nurse. Then around 25 weeks she suddenly said there's juice! It was colosstrum. Now at 38 weeks I have a decent amount of colostrum but still need the rice milk because its by no means "plentiful".

I did the same thing. DD was 1 1/2.
