yesterday i had an internal exam and my m/w attempted to strip my membranes but said she really couldn't do it because my cervix is posterior and the babies head was in the way. she said to expect some spotting and cramping but i didn't have either until the middle of the night last night. in fact, i have quite a bit of it now and it's more than just spotting, it's also small pieces of my mucous plug.
i'm also having fairly regular contractions (probably every 5 minutes but i haven't been timing them yet) and the contractions feel a lot different than the prodromal contractions i've been experiencing for the past 3 weeks - they are in my back and lower in my belly than the others. i also have had 3 bowel movements since 3 AM.
does it sound more like i'm in early labor or just experiencing the effects of the "membrane stripping"? it just seems odd to me that nothing happened until more than 12 hours after seeing the midwife. in the past if i have an internal exam i usually spot pretty quickly after it, like i need to change my pantyliner as soon as i get home....
