And then on a side note... my mother just makes me feel so warm and fuzzy about this. She's been pushing the cloth diaper option at me since we announced our pregnancy. She used cloth on both me and my brother, and feels it's the best overall option. She is totally amazed at all the "cool new" cloth diapers out there. She's totally overwhelmed by them, but so enthused by it. She's been waiting on our decision for months now, and I finally told her we were going with bumGenius and sent her the link. She wants to buy us our cloth diaper stash. :
In regards to such an non mainstream decision on our parts, I am so blessed to have my mothers 100% (and then some) support on this. How lucky can a person get?!
My brother's wife is also pregnant, but 2 months behind me. My mom had me ask her if they were using disposable or cloth (again, she wants to buy the stash for them), but SIL said they decided on disposable. My mom was so disappointment, but perked up saying "I bet they'll change their minds after they see yours".

Wow -- what a wonderful win win situation. If mom is buying the stash I would consider mixing it up a bit. All diapers are different, all babies are different. If you end up with a stash that does not meet YOUR needs you are setting yourself up for a disappointment. I would suggest maybe 3 or 6 of different brands to get a feel for the appropriate needs for you baby. Prefolds have a place, AIO's are nice for out of the house and shorter weartime imo, fitted's offer a superior easy quick fit, pockets are a favorite to about 30% of the crowd that I can gauge over the years. Some like natural fibers some want the synthetics.
There are a lot of choices and some may not be the right fit for you. By mixing it up out of the starting gate you can better utilized first hand observations to get a really good diapering experience in play. Wool is great too!
If I can also add.
Since mom is buying the diapers and maybe the covers you may want to put on your wish list for a shower 2-3 dozen cloth wipes, a wet bag or two for storage or travel, cloth nursing pads, maybe a sling, consider some cloth PostPartum Pads for moms comfort too.
Best of luck to you and mom. I agree with her -- cloth is best and sister in Law will soon follow.
