Acne meds?

Good Morning Ladies,

Does anyone know if it is safe to take benzoyl peroxide (topical) while pregnant? My book says no but some sites say it is safe, so I am unsure. I stopped taking the Retinol A cream because I read that was bad and made sure there is no accutane in the product, but I have always had severe acne and have to take something. This AcneFree system has worked so well for me this past year and I am hesitant to lose it. Any advice?

This site shows specifically the risk category attached to medications per the FDA. Hope that helps.

ETA: I would still run it by your care provider and do some research for yourself.

Thank you!

It seems even the website above is uncertain of the effects. You are right - I will check with my provider tomorrow

Is this your first pregnancy, by the way? I struggled with acne for a long time and for some reason, once I hit the second trimester my skin always got better, and stayed clear for the rest of the pregnancy and while without periods due to nursing. The hormone change proved to be good to me, perhaps it will be for you, too!

Duac and Finacea while pregnant

I never had problems with acne till I got pregnant with my son back in 2007. My dermatologist prescribed Duac (benzoyl peroxide) and Finacea Gel. I was told that these two products are safe to use while pregnant. The gel and cream cured my acne and I have a very healthy 2 year old son

I had 1 triangular patch of eczema on my chin my ENTIRE pregnancy w/ DD. It was so odd; I could scrub it and moisurize, but it always came back a little while later, just red and flaky as before! But the day after I gave birth it just disappeared

Hi Shell,
Yes, my first one Thanks for giving me hope of a light at the end of the tunnel! Thanks to all of you for the advice, I feel much better now. I just read and skimmed through the whole "What to expect when you're expecting..." book and was feeling a little overwhelmed. Talking with you guys makes it feel more real but also more comforting. Thanks for that!
