Has Anyone Gone Long Time with Water Broken?

My water broke at 12:30 a.m. this morning. It's now 1:40 p.m. I'm planning a home birth. My midwife has me taking all of the precautions necessary to avoid infection; I'm taking lots of Vitamin C, drinking my weight in water, etc. But I'm still not having major contractions. Nothing consistent or really painful.

Have any of you experienced going a long time before baby arrived with your water already broken? In the past, I have always gone right into active labor after my water breaks, so I'm a little confused.

My midwife is stopping by later to check her heart tones, so I'll talk to her about this then, but I'd thought I would find out if any of you have had similar experiences.

I was induced last time because contractions didn't start on their own. I wish I had been given more time. I hope you are starting to feel some progress!

Did your water leak or gush??

Thanks for your response, Herins. Well, it started out as a leak, but then I had several "gushes" in the middle of the night last night. I quit having gushes or leaks about 4 a.m., but had some more leaks this afternoon. I'm still having bloody show, and finally had a couple of good, painful contractions this afternoon. Nothing consistent through. The waiting is driving me crazy! Plus, now that there is no water cushioning the baby, she is RIGHT on top of my bladder. Doesn't feel too great!

Hey there,
my first dd was born 55 hours after my water first broke. I had no ctx for 24 hours (had a NST w/MW, went back home & rested). Then spicy meal & ctx began on & off.
Once thing got rolling the next day, it was a beautiful labor.

Hang in there, mama. The stat I've heard is 70% of moms are in labor within 24 hours (and 90% spontaneously within 48 hours). Enjoy these final hours til game time!
Good luck!

Mamabutterfly--THANK YOU for the encouragement. I can use it right now. :-)

I really appreciate the info about your experience and the stats. Very encouraging.

Now....I'm going to go find me a spicy meal.

Mine was broken for 88 hours before I got any contractions with ds2. It was broken for about 17 hours before I got more than 1 contraction every half hour or so with ds3.

Well, I was in a bit of a different situation, but my water was broken for 10 WEEKS with ds1. No infection or anything.

My water broke and after 52 hours of nothing, my partner was falling apart and worried and pushed for an induction. FYI, do NOT NOT NOT let anyone do a VE AT ALL after your water breaks, even if you are told it is policy, or they wont' admit you without one or whatever. It gave my daughter and I an infection. I have no idea how long I would have gone before labor started.

With my first I went about 13 hours before labor kicked in & she was born at the 24 hour mark~

With my 4th I was leaking for 13 weeks prior to her forced evac

I know with 2 others I was leaking but I do not know for how long~ I hope that you are holding your baby right now!

How's it going???

I went 3 days after my water broke with meconium stained fluid, even. I drank gallons of water and took labor tincture on the 3rd day (black and blue cohosh and something else) which started my labor within 8 hours.

Thanks to all the responses! Just thought I would update and let you know my baby finally arrived this morning at 7:30. Big contractions started about 28 hours after my water broke. It was a wonderful homebirth. Just what we had hoped it would be!

We named our daughter Tatum Grace Ryann. :-) I'll probably post my birth story in the thread soon.

Thanks again, and best wishes to all the mamas in waiting!
