CLW and pumping

Thread Starter
My DS is 18months this week. I went back to work fulltime when he was 4months old. I have successfully pumped plenty of milk for him and up until about 14months was going home everyday to nurse him at lunch.
He quit being interested in nursing at lunch so I've since stopped going.
and now he's quit wanting any pumped milk during the day too!
he still nurses very frequently while I'm home and throughout a good part of the night which i encourage and love

so there are 2 parts to this question.
1. can we really do true CLW since i'm not available to him all day everyday?
2. if he isnt interested in the pumped milk anymore, do i give up pumping and let supply readjust to what he is actually drinking?

i do not want to jeopardize milk supply by ending pumping, but I have to say i'd be happy to give that thing up!

thanks for any input

I worked very part time when my son was that age and there was a definite decrease in how much milk he took without there being a decrease in how much time he spent nursing.

One thing you may want to do is taste your milk. I found out I have high lipase and my milk tastes so bad within 24 hours that it is undrinkable. Safe, but horrid tasting. However, if I scald it right away it stays sweet tasting. So, taste your milk to see if that is why he is refusing it. IF you find that is your issue, feel free to pm me for more info on scalding.

Hmmm, I've never heard of high lipase and milk tasting bad after a while. That is very interesting.

I worked full-time/pumped for my oldest until she was about 1. She started refusing pumped milk, so I stopped pumping after a month or so. It worked out just fine. She nursed a lot in the evenings and on my days off. She still nurses 2 or 3 times a day at 3 years old. My supply adjusted just fine.
