anyone interested in a healthy eating thread?

I am RAVENOUS and all I want is soda and cake. It is SOOOOOOOOOOO bad. So, I thought maybe if we give each other support we can keep our eating healthy and our weight gain not too out of control. I gained 33 lbs with my first 2 pregnancies and I am starting out about 20-25 lbs overweight with this one... if I can keep from gaining 70 I will be happy.

Anyone in? I feel like if I post my daily menu here it will keep me on track.

I'm following the Brewer diet - I've found that if I get everything or almost everything in I don't have any cravings for bad stuff at all. I'm making brownies today and while I'll probably have a few bites I doubt I'll have any desire to eat the whole pan like I did with previous pregnancies.

I also write down what I eat every day.

The brewer diet is super healthy, but it's just too much food for me to get down right now! I'm doing good ust having a slow, steady amount of food going in all day to keep me from being sick. I am working though, and so it is easy to buy and bring only healthy stuff. What kills me is when I get off and go to the store for a craving. : I somehow end up with things like Ben & Jerrys!

Count me in on the healthy eating thread!

Count me in as well...I have lots of fresh fruits in the fridge but I just want chocolate and ice cream and unhealthy stuff like that! Give me some motivation!

What a great idea... my problem right now is eating enough. Everything including chocolate sounds disgusting. (well except ben + jerry's, but it's too cold to go walk the blocks needed to go get some). I know I'm not eating enough so I'm hoping that some good healthy eating ideas on this thread will help.

Sounds like a great idea. It seems weird, but I swear eating healthier is making me gain weight...although it might be the ranch with my all veggies!

I think a healthy eating thread is a great idea! I'm currently about 20 lbs overweight (can't seem to loose it, no matter what!), and probably 8 lbs heavier than I was at the beginning of my 3rd pregnancy (the last one I carried full term). The most I've ever gained with any pregnancy is 28 lbs. I'm hoping to only gain 20-25 this time.

I'm a much different person now in so many ways than I was back then (6+ years ago)...I've learned and studied so much about nutrition since that time. My overall diet has changed for the better, though it was never bad.

I am very interested in this thread! I know I ate too much junk in my last pregnancy and I don't want to repeat that. Plus I go to the gym several days a week now and want to maintain my strength/flexibility...

Does anyone have any good ideas for snacks, recipes, etc., that keep you full and are healthy? I'm always looking!

Here's what works for me:

- Fage (or other brands) Greek yogurt - TONS of protein and yummy mixed with honey and fruit

- Luna bars

- Fiber One bars

- Almonds

Any ideas for meals? Here are a few I've had success with recently:

Those recipes look delicious!! At least one is going to go on next weeks meal plan.

I made this oatmeal for breakfast this morning. It is so good!!! I was getting tired of just plain oatmeal in the am.

Mmm Pam that sounds good!! Maybe this weekend I will try that. Getting tired of my english-muffin-and-egg-beaters-every-day!

I loooove oatmeal as well. I usually add vanilla extra and honey or raw sugar. Sometimes nuts too. :

Oh, which reminds me, we should all be eating Omega 3's starting now (little brains are growing , here are common sources:

Flax seeds (though not recommended during pregnancy)
Walnuts
Chinook salmon, baked/broiled
Scallops, baked/broiled
Soybeans, cooked
Halibut, baked/broiled
Shrimp, steamed, boiled
Snapper, baked
Tofu, raw
Winter squash
Tuna, yellowfin
Cod, baked
Kidney beans

For now I'm sticking to walnuts and shrimp.

Why are flax seeds not recommended during pregnancy?

It seems to be really controversial. Some sites (like Dr. Sears) said it was fine, others said to limit/restrict due to the estrogen effects (http://www.flaxhealth.com/faqs.htm). I think small doses are probably fine though.

I'm in but I'll start next trimester. First trimester I eat whatever I can keep down. I have spent three month living on potato chips before. After 12 weeks tho, I'm in.

The thread sounds good to me! With my last pregnancy, I didn't eat very well at all. Lots of white stuff and sugar and over-processed foods. I was a pretty strong 'whole foods' eater before the pregnancy and just couldn't get it down while I was pregnant. I could have done so much better in my 2nd and 3rd tris, but didn't.

This time I must do better, especially since I am planning a home birth....

I just bought "Every Woman's Guide To Eating During Pregnancy" by Martha Rose Shulman The recipes look FABULOUS!!!! My library had this book, so check and see if yours does!

I had gestational diabetes the first pregnancy, so now, I am taking care as I'm a diabetic again, my meals are healthy, but the easier way to understand our diet, is the Montignac Method, it has many interesting meals, fun also, u forget about calories and start using the glicemic level of the meals, wish help anyone else, also I have some tables but are in spanish huh!!!

I'm in too. So far I am doing ok. It's later on when I get cravings and get really bad.

I usually eat oatmeal for breakfast with some nuts and maple syrup (not too bad, right ??). Then a pc of pb and jelly toast. I am having m/s, so am trying to get the protein in to stay full longer. Then maybe mid morning a green smoothie. And then whatever I can forage at lunch.

Any other ideas for snacks? or breakfast? I am already tired of oatmeal, but CAN NOT stomach eggs :yuck: I really need protein to make myself feel half normal all day, but it is hard.

Also, anyone starving about an hour after they go to bed? I have that empty stomach feeling, but I am SOOO tired, at that point I prefer sleep to food.
