Well that is sort of the point of my post. I don't really want to celebrate the christian-based religion of Easter. But i want my ds to be able to partake in a celebration of spring/life etc and "do" fun "eastery" stuff (lol do you like that word?) As a kid I remember feeling really yucky about the whole christ dying on a cross thing (in a way it felt tramatizing or something). And would not feel comfortable telling my ds that easter is all about a dead man rising from the grave and what not (not bashing anyone's beliefs they are just not what i feel comfortable with).

And thank you to everyone else who gave me some really great ideas! I also am looking forward to seeing what my UU church does around easter.

update

Update:

So far I got ds:

a beach towel
an egg that you crack and then water and a plant grows in it
a couple of little books about our faith (UU)

and i'm going to get him
a little rake (we signed one out at the library and he LOVES it...not sure how i will be able to even return it without him noticing lol)
a backpack with his initials on it (instead of a basket i think i'm gonna put all the stuff inside it.

also we are going on his first camping trip this summer so maybe i'll get something camping related!

Anyone else wanna share?

We are Budhist, but we do the bunny and egg part of Easter. We celebrate the fun traditions and focus on springtime.

We are Atheists, and we "do" easter as a celebration of spring. My daughters have two female cousins who are the same ages as them, so they do an easter egg hunt together. We don't have any sort of prayers or church-attending ceremonies, but we get together with family and eat and do the egg hunt.

Like most children - even a lot of Christian ones! - our kids just think that easter is about candy. :
