Shoulder issues with your Ergo?

Thread Starter
I finally got rid of my breaking my back Bjorn and got an Ergo. So far I like it and love carrying DD in the hip position but it is really bothering my shoulders. Anyway to fix this? I don't want to return it and love carrying her. She loves it too. Maybe I'm not doing something right and an experienced Ergo mom or dad can offer some advice.

I've been using my Ergo for about 18 months. I think maybe you need to adjust something differently. I have never had shoulder pain from using it, even after wearing my chunkster for hours. Are you doing a front or back carry?

I find the hip postion to be awkward and only use it when I want to carry ds and he NEEDS to be able to see in front of us well, like at the zoo or something. I find front and back carries to be VERY comfortable though

I love my ergo - wear it for hours at a time, but to me, the hip position is worthless. If i want baby on my hip a pouch is much more comfy.

I just realized you are using a hip carry. I've never done that, because it seemed really awkward to me. I do back carries almost exclusively, and find it extremely comfortable. I did front carries some when DS was a bit younger, but even that was pretty comfortable (just not as convenient for me).

Yeah, I have to agree, it's really not a good hip carrier at all. I think that the shoulder strap designs for a good front/back carrier and a good hip carrier are pretty much totally incompatible. So it's one or the other.

I would try a back carry and see if she can see around well enough to meet both your needs.

you could get a scootababy, which is a hip carrier but similar to a ergo. Also, if the back carry in the ergo is too low for baby to see out, you could try a mei tai or podagi for high back carries.
