thanks-- Yes, I am enjoying it. I'm about half-way through. It's about boys' experiences in school and beyond. Basically, in the past couple of decades, a gender gap has appeared. We tend to think of girls as needing support in school, encouragement in higher math/science. The new reality is that boys are falling farther and farther behind. It used to be confined to disadvantaged children, but there is a gap now in all socioeconomic groups in which girls have the growing advantage over boys.
After discussing the realities of the situation, it discusses the possible whys, long-term ramifications, as well as what parents of boys can do about it. I was a teacher for 10 years and it is something I suspected but never saw clearly laid out. Now as the mother of twin sons, it's something that worries me greatly. I know how boys can be treated in schools, especially if they're at all "squirrely".
