I did it....

I just had my third son on march 4th and I left him intact, I posted my story about my other sons on a big thread here if you regret circing your son I believe it was. Anyway people pressured me hardcore. I didnt care because I had left my first (sorry was in a hurry) son intact actually but some issues happend so I knew what I was doing somewhat. a nurse in L & D even tried to tell me I had to retract his foreskin to clean it, I knew better thanks to reading here. I mean even a nurse/lactation consultant at our peds office said no when one of the others wasnt sure what to do with it even after I said do not touch my sons penis . I cant believe people dont know what to do with an intact penis but they really dont well most dont! The ped who saw my son in the hosp (I was a really high risk pregnancy) while we were there was like I am so happy that you arent circing your son, I get tired of doing them quite frankly! I dont know why I wanted to share this but I am proud of myself for just standing up for myself and my son, not that I havent always done that but it felt so different this time.

: I'm thrilled for you!!!

Its too bad your ds's ped still continues to do them even tho he says he hates to do them. I bet he wouldn't have to do them so much if he just gave instructions on intact care instead of asking if they want to circ.

Regardless, I'm really really happy for you and for your ds!

Congratulations, what a lucky boy : I am proud of you too, for what that is worth I think that you should keep handy some of the proper documentation for those who don't know because part of what we need to do is dispel those myths. The AAP sheet is so-so on this: http://www.aap.org/publiced/br_uncircumcised.htm the biggest mistake they make is implying that five is the magical age but it's not actually it can be as long as teen years with only have being retractable by 11.

In any case, congratulations and thanks for sharing, keep spreading the word.

I dont think he has a choice to be honest because he's in the army...I'm pretty sure that he probably doesnt have a choice sadly, they just have to do whatever the normal procedures or practices are.

Not all that familiar with the Army. Do they do it as a default rather than asking you first? And some random lucky babe happens to have all his body parts because the parents said DO NOT CIRC my ds! FIRST. Its like a race on the fate of the child! Sorry, don't mean to be dramatic.

How does that work?

well they have to ask you and they do ask...like he asked me and I said no. I think its just part of what they have to do because its what most people choose and hospital policy . The military medical is a bit different than civilian. Basically they have to follow whatever they are told to ask the parents, he doesnt get paid to do them or anything. Military docs all get paid the same according to rank etc. There is nothing in it for them to do them. They just have to ask because they are told to by whoever is in charge. Like say if you say no, they arent allowed to pressure you to do it and vice versa... its the parents decision when it comes to things they just have to ask what you are going to do then whatever you choose they have to do it. If its something like "your baby will die if you dont do xyz procedure and I as your doc am telling you need to do this" then they will go there with that because they are allowed to but with things like that they dont push the issue either way because its up to the parents by their policies. I hope that makes a little sense lol.
