name opinion needed...

So dh and I have a girl name that we like and will probably use since I really think its a girl . But, we don't have any boy names although we just thought of one we both like, BRAYDEN, but then my immediate thought after was oh, it sort of rhymes or sounds like my ds' name, Tatum.

So, do you think Brayden is too close to Tatum? We are also considering Braylen now, dh wants me to add that.

And my other thought is I can't imagine an adult with this name, only a child.

Hmmm.

Please don't say if you like or dislike the name , this is hard enough for us. I just want opinions on if its too close in sound to his brother's name, or too childish....

Thanks.

Hmmm, it is a tongue twister to say both kids' names... Braylen is a little less tricky. I am having the same difficulty in coming up with names. My boy's name is Aidan, and every name I like (girl and boy) seems to sound to similar.

I don't think it is too close. I also think it would suit an adult wonderfully.

I don't think they sound all that similar. As long as you're aware that Brayden (and all the other -den names) are really popular right now, I don't see a problem with it.

I would think that if you're yelling it, as in "Come in for dinner!" they sound very similar. My vote is for too close.

Yeah, I'm thinking already that Brayden is too popular sounding right now anyway, plus I think its too close for me...and Braylen is just ok. We are both so unsure of anything else we come up with...ugh. I hate boy names!

We want something uniique, yet not too strange...and important to us also is not being able to associate the name culturally. Dh is black Jamaican and I'm white. Some names we really like sound immediately like a black name or white name, and we don't want that for our child...its so hard. For instance, we liked Zion for a while...now thinking about it, he will automatically be assumed to be black with that name. And I don't want our child feeling he is a certain race just because of the name we give him, yk? I hope that makes sense to everyone...Same with Keegan. Cute, but too white...and popular. I should probably post this in the multicultural forum as well, maybe I'd get some ideas over there from others who have gone through that same naming dilemmas.

Dh also likes names that could be unisex as well...its like too many requirements especially when you already love the name of your son as much as we do...its like nothing will be as perfect as that for us. This sucks. I just don't want to worry about it until baby is born because I think it'll be a girl and we won't have to stress, but dh HAS to have at least a short list for boy names, he is so unsettled about it and driving me crazy.

Open to suggestions! Thanks ladies...

We had such a hard time naming our daughter, too! Sorry this is tough... I don't know if your names are too close to Tatum or not- it's just on the edge.

If you're looking for other names, one thing you might try is putting Brayden and/or Braylen into http://nymbler.com/. It will generate names that are somewhat similar to those names. Also take a look at http://www.babynamewizard.com/namipe...ed-name-finder.

A few ideas for you...

Brady
Brogan
Brodey
Cade
Devon
Dylan
Grady
Haven
Jordan
Tyson

I love the name Tyson but it does make two "T" names in one family which some people do not like. My first two DDs have "M" names so it doesn't bother me too much. I also love, love, love the name Brody(Brodie). It was our pick for a boy but we never have gotten one

Back to the OP, I think they are both too close and I would try something else. The nymbler website is great for names. That is how we got our newest one's name---Evelyn.
