unschoolers in northern california?

my husband has a potential job offer in petaluma and i am wondering about the unschooling community in the area? seems like a great area and my one concern is that i would be drivng all over the place to meet up w/ other unschooling families.

my son is only 16 months but we think of ourselves as unschoolers and plan to keep unschooling for as long as it works for us. we live in west marin and i have yet to meet any other homeschoolers here but we havn't lived here very long and are kinda shy.

Sonoma and Marin homeschooling

There's a huge group called Sonoma County Homeschoolers Assn., SCHA, and there have always been plenty of unschoolers among them. They're spread out all over the county, though, so you might have to do some driving at times. Their website has names and contact info for some of their members who have volunteered to answer questions, so you can call a few of them and find out more. You can join and get their newsletter for a sliding scale fee, and it will be packed full of events you can take a look at to get a good idea. And there's more! You can contact the County Contacts that volunteer for HSC, the HomeSchool Assn. of California, listed on this page: County Contacts and talk to them about homeschooling in both Sonoma and Marin counties. we are in San Francisco, just 1/2 hour south of you. There are the SFBunnies (San Francisco Bay Area Unschooling Network), a yahoo group, they might know a few people in Marin and Sonoma.
