Another name opinion thread

My husband and I haven't really picked out any names, but we were talking a few nights ago and both REALLY like Wyatt. However, every single person I've mentioned this name to has said something about cowboys or the wild west. I'll be honest, I live under a rock, and had to wiki who Wyatt Erp was And now I'm wondering, is that name always going to be associated with cowboys? Do any of you know any Wyatts, or would you use that name? Be honest, usually I wouldn't ask for name advice, because it's my choice, but I don't want the kid to grow up with everyone calling him a cowboy! (that is, if that baby is even a boy!)

I think you'll get cowboy associations, yes. But it's a cool name and I don't think that a Wyatt will get linked to his name associations more than most other names. That's just something people do. I have a a Graham and we get some Graham cracker, Alexander Graham Bell, Golden Graham associations, but it's not like it's taking over his name, yk?

Honestly I go to Wyatt on the PBS show Super Why more easily than I do Wyatt Erp! Shows where my brain is at I guess! I'd say go for it!

Yes, I thought of Super Why too! I agree people just associate names with things and anyone famous. I have a Levi that everyone thinks it is so funny to get him Levi brand jeans. I also have a Payton (girl) and have heard my share of Peyton Manning jokes. I think if you like the name, use it. Any name you choose someone will find something to say or someone to compare it with.

I think the name Wyatt is great! We've had the same go-round with our favorite boy name...the possible associations people might make...and decided that we don't care what other people think, we're using the name we like best. We'll be creating our own association. Name = our adorable child!

IDK if this is helpful, but it would tickle my funny bone immensely to call my child Wyatt Urp when he was spitting up all over himself .

I like Wyatt What comes to mind for me is one of the characters in that movie "Weird Science". For some reason that name always stuck out to me once I saw that movie!

I like it although cowboys do come to mind. How about Emmett? Similar sound, but now so wild west.

I wouldn't think of Wyatt Erp at all. But, that's me. I like Wyatt. I think of my friend because that's her last name, thats all!

I love Wyatt too.....and I also thought of Super Why.
I say go with what you like. People will always make associations with it. I have an Elliot. And SO many people say, "ET Phone Home". I have to chuckle and pretend that's the first time anyone has ever said that!!

Although I like a good Western I never really think of Wyatt Erp when I meet a Wyatt. I had a friend in high school named Wyatt. He was an amazing artist. There is also a Wyatt in my 3 year old DD play group that is adorable. I love the name!

I personally think of Wyatt Erp but I don't really think that is a bad thing. I find that someone will find *something* with any name you choose. It could be that trashy girl from high school or the loser from the office. But if you like the name who cares?

Not in your DDC but my son's name is Wyatt. We rarely get a Wyatt Erp comment.

I have a friend with a 3 month old named Wyatt, and I didn't even think of the cowboy- but my son DID call the baby Super Why!
He is a cutey, and I don't think the name sounds too cowboy-ish.

I thought it was from Charmed.

Not in your DDC - But my 17 year old nephew is named Wyatt. None of his friends or peers really mention the Wyatt Earp. Everyone comments that it's a cool name. Most names that have famous or historical figures associated with them will automatically be a trigger for most people.
